If you deal with Gangs at all from the patrol to investigative fields, this is your book.
Gangs are infulencing every aspect of society including the military...that's why the Navy's NCIS used this book as a reference!
It is highly informative and will give you the necessary training to start you out in this field and keep you going. Of course gangs change signs, tactics and methods as they see fit so certain portions will obviously be out of date but that is inevidable.
This manual should be purchased and read by patrol officers up to senior supervisors. Like that saying goes, the more you know the more you grow (and stay alive to beat the bad guys).

The author of this book is a former Correctional Officer. He served as his prison's gang intelligence officer so he provides plenty of first-hand expertise. This book really goes into depth with respect to revealing the gang world. Methods of recruitment, training, and how gangs make their money in and out of prison are all covered. A very good read if you're really serious about learning and understanding the "gang life."

Book is published in 1995 - things have changed. It is still a very good reference tool for those involved in law enforcement.

Easy to read, understand with plenty of reference photographs and diagrams explaining the meaning of symbols et al.

If you are looking for an current up to date reference book, you may want to reconsider.

Introductory March 31 2010
By Chris Rasmussen - Published on Amazon.com

As a criminal defense lawyer who represents gang members it was an obvious read as law enforcement utilizes it to train their officers. Most of the information is dated and of little use. It is however a good starting point to understand gang behavior.

Good, If Slightly Outdated, Info on Gangs April 16 2006
By Bill Tennant - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Although the book is a bit outdated, it's a very good book on all manner of street gangs. And though it doesn't cover the gangs of the area I live in, the information is still valid and pretty well relevant.

If you have children and want to learn what to watch out for, or if you're in a profession that deals with them, then this book is a must. Especially if you combine it with the other book by Mr Valentine.

Too Vauge May 26 2011
By Zachary M. Dominguez - Published on Amazon.com

The information is credited. But not usefully for work. The job changes too fast. The streets change even faster. Interesting for the outsider, first year basics. Awww, it was okay at the least.

Good book, but kinda outdated April 15 2009
By C. Pratt - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This book should be on everyone's shelf that works in LE. It's information is a bit outdated, but the gangs are changing so fast that last weeks news is also outdated.

For anyone just starting out and wanting gang intel...this is a great start!

Stay Safe!
