Ganges [Import]

Once again the BBC has produced another spectacular production this being "GANGES" along with Planet Earth and other BBC documentaries.It's worth checking out other listings on Amazon. The narrator Suda Bhuchar is worth mentioning.At times her rather monotone (carefully planed I would think)narration is somehow very fitting to the style and steady flow of the film.The actual source of the Ganges is still somewhat unknown,due to it's many springs and tributaries from the majestic mountains of the Himalayas.Volatile relationships between human and beast is shown from the rivers beginnings to it's final exit through Calcutta and out into the Bay of Bengal.All this captured through the amazing photography that is breathtakingly superb. Mother Ganges as she is known to the some half a billion peoples, living and making their Holy Pilgrimage's along her banks is a wonder to behold.So many of these are impoverished men,women and children trying to eak out a meager living.The declining forrests and lands of the mighty tiger and most other species of animals is shown in rather a suttle way.Never preaching at us,but,never the less making it quite obvious that it is global warming causing what is now and becoming a devastation to the river and land.Hopefully an other wake up call that must be paid attention to. The Blu Ray version of Ganges is a momentous and moving event revealing the wonderful journey of MOTHER GANGES, just breathtaking. Paul Barrington

Now I understand how important this river is in this land of heat and drought, and its effect on the life of so many people. Pictures are great on my 47 inch LCD 120hz. The story from the the Himalayas to the delta in the sea of Bengal is well told. It is a nice blend of the life of the people, the geography, the climate and the wildlife. Not too much of anyone, mostly of the gods that are so important for the Hindouhism, but very complicated and we don't want to learn all about the gods, like in the History of India, another BBC blu-ray, very interesting, but much to heavy. Ganges is fluent, varied, complete and sufficiently simple for everyone to follow easily. Good buy at the price. Will certainly watch it again in the next couple of years.
