In the 26 episodes in this boxed set (half the content of season 2), Xanatos is particularly busy cooking up mischief--some of which goes very wrong, such as the forced metamorphosis of several kidnapped humans into winged monsters, an experiment conducted by one of the mad scientists working in his labs. A couple of multi-part stories, such as "City of Stone," in which New York's inhabitants are turned to stone under a dark spell, and "Avalon," in which Goliath ventures into King Arthur territory, enrich and anchor season 2 with consistent storylines. As with the first season, these new tales have an impressive vocal cast, including Michael Dorn, Tim Curry, David Warner, and Sheena Easton. --Tom Keogh

My favorite season of my favorite cartoon!,
This review is from: Gargoyles V1 Season Two (DVD)
I was very impressed with Volume 1 of Season 2 - and I am eagerly looking forward to Volume 2!Gargoyles is a cartoon that has a very loyal adult following who have continued to support the series on the internet despite that fact that it was cancelled years ago. There is a reason we are so loyal - IT WAS A WONDERFUL SHOW! Volume 1 of Season 2 continues the story of a clan of Scottish Gargoyles were who frozen in stone by sorcery 1,000 years ago - betrayed by the humans they protected. In modern-day New York, a wealthy but manipulative billionaire breaks the spell. The Gargoyles are not only strangers in a strange land, but also in a strange time. While many things have changed in the last millenium, human prejudice has not - but the Gargoyles continue to protect the innocent. Highlights of this 3-disc set include the 4-part "City of Stone" series that explains the history and nature of the bond between Demona and MacBeth. My personal favorite is the 3-part series entitled "Avalon", during which we finally learn what happened to the gargoyle eggs that were left in the rookery when Goliath and company were frozen in stone. An impressive bonus of this DVD set is the episode introductions (optional) provided by Greg Weisman along with an interesting segment featuring the cast and crew. Collectors will appreciate the stunning cover art (Goliath and Demona about to do battle) and the pictures embossed on each disc (Brooklyn, Hudson, and Demona). This cartoon tapped into many of my interests - mythology, Shakespeare, King Arthur, etc. The show also attracted an impressive array of voice talent. Many of the characters were from Star Trek: The Next Generation (Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, Brent Spiner). Other notables included Keith David, John Rhys-Davies, Ed Asner, and Tim Curry. Much of the fun of watching Gargoyles was guessing who was voicing who! I think what I enjoyed the most about the show was the diversity. Heroes and villains, both human and gargoyle alike, came in every shape, size and colour. The lessons in each episode were delivered in an intelligent and relevant way about concepts and issues we all struggle with - integrity, respect for self and for others, responsibility, etc. I believe this show will appeal to any child or adult with a sense of adventure and an open imagination!

Eagerly awaiting Season 2:Volume 2,

If this box set could be said to have a fault, IF, then it would be that we've had to wait so long for the other half of the episodes. Lucky for me, most of my favourites are in here.I have been in love with this show for over a decade now. Buy this and season one, and you wont be disappointed. I realize this is a cartoon, and some may dismiss it out of hand as childrens' entertainment but it works on so many levels. Much of the fan base is adult. It's witty, interesting, and surprisingly believeable for a show with mythical creatures in it. It actually made me go out and read a Midsummer's Night Dream, just for more informaton on some of the characters who are named for people in Shakespears plays. I urge you to watch this series. If only for Puck, and the Weird Sisters.

I love this season of gargolyes:). I was however a little surprised at how expensive this Volume is; given the price of the first season I was not expecting this high price. Still, it is well worth buying.
