Product Description

This tiny foot pod is small enough to attach to your shoelaces or fit in the mid-sole pocket of compatible shoes. It's always ready to use, and a small, replaceable watch battery powers the foot pod for a year of training. Unlike simple pedometers, this foot pod uses advanced MEMS inertial-sensor technology to analyze your movements and is responsive to stride-length changes to achieve 98 percent accuracy for speed and distance. Additionally, this sensor measures running cadence to help you optimize your training.

I use this just to monitor my cadence, not for measuring speed. Sometimes it misses a step (drops the signal) so the average cadence appears lower than it actually is. This problem is widely reported. That is not really a big problem for me, because I am more interested in real-time reporting and looking at the data graph, but considering how well other Garmin products work, it's a drag having a buggy product, especially considering the price. Amazon lists this as "for indoor use only." That's just a mistake on Amazon's part. One of the uses of the pod is tracking your speed when you are indoors and cannot get a GPS signal. But the unit is waterproof to a depth of 10 ft, so it can certainly handle a little rain (I've had no ill effects).

This is a great product for anyone that runs on a treadmill and syncs with Garmin products. My only complaint is the very high price for such a small piece of needed technology that no one else manufactures so you are stuck purchasing it from Garmin.

the foot pod works perfectly, just like it says on its description. For those who like or need to know the exact data for their runs,it's a must have type of product.

I'm using this item with the Garmin 910xt watch.
The foot pod technology is very accurate. After calibrating the foot pod while using the GPS on my watch. I could use it right away on any treadmill. It is also pratical when link to the GPS, so when the GPS signal drop (In a dense forest or in a tunel) the foot pod automaticly start calculating your pace.
When properly calibrated, it about 99% accurate (with me). But don't forget to recalibrate the foot pod when you change shoes (as the position on the shoes will affect the result).

The shipping was faster than predicted, received it 1 day after it was shipped. Attaches very secure to laces. My forerunner 210 picks up the sensor right away. My forerunner does not display the real time cadence (steps per minute), however the pace is more accurate. It makes your real time displayed pace more accurate when running in parks with lots of trees, around dense urban concrete buildings, or through tunnels. The steps per minute (cadence) is displayed in a nice graph when you upload your data to the garmin connect website.

I highly recommend this foot pod to anyone that runs indoors during the cold winter months. Once you calibrate the unit, usually outdoors via GPS tracking, the foot pod is quite accurate to measure distance, pace and speed. Unlike treadmills that are not always accurate and vary from one machine to another, this unit is consistent according to your stride and distance covered as measured by your steps per minute. I purchased the Garmin Foot pod new for about $50, well worth it at that price.

I must say that Amazon's free shipping is faster than ever. I ordered it Wednesday afternoon and received it Thursday. First thing I noticed was the pod wouldn't pair with my Forerunner 410. I tried shaking it a lot and nothing. Luckily I have a lot of spare CR2032s in my house, so I replaced the battery, and it paired in just a few seconds. Haven't tried it yet, but I plan to use it when I run on the treadmill at the gym to get a more accurate distance.

The precision of this device is really impressive. I use it with Forerunner 310XT. After a calibration it gives the distance with less than 1% error.
