4.0 out of 5 stars GPS Jan. 21 2011
Over all I'm happy with this model of GPS. I am a little disappointed in the road maps included with it. Pretty sparse. But I didn't buy it for roads anyway. It just sucks that you have to drop another hundred or two on a map pack if you want accurate road maps. That said, this little baby can take any jpg image and float it over the base-map. So for example, you can take a photo of a map you may have, and line it up using Google earth, and it will show up in your GPS accurately. I have done it, and it is a fairly simple process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gps Oregon 450 April 29 2013

I read a few reviews about it before I decided to get it, and Im glad that I went along and bought this. Im in the military and I use it out in the field alot and it works great, esp since it's a touch screen, I can put in grids on the fly quickly and carry on, the dimming feature on this is awesome, when doing night ops I can put it to super dim and I can still read it at night and isnt bright enough to give out my loc when using it. One of the toughest gps's I have ever had, it's been dropped so many times, thrown around alot, and socked for +2 days, I even dropped it in a river and it's still good to go. I took it out for testing when I first got it and did a small waypoint exercise to make sure it is accurate, it catches signals really well, I got it on sale for $209, what a steal. I had an etrex 30 that I bought then returned, I just didn't feel that it could handle the same amount of abuse my Oregon 450 is taking, plus putting in grids took forever, esp when I had multiple grids to load, the touch screen is awesome and I highly recommend this gps! (PS. the size of it is just perfect, I can even fit it in my pockets)

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it so far Jan. 25 2014

Most of the free maps available out there don't cover Newfoundland, but I found one that does. This model doesn't include detailed maps; they are available from Garmin but if you are going to do that, you might as well buy the T model that includes them as the price works out to about the same. I was looking at eTrex models but found the screen too small for my liking. The Oregon 450 has a bigger screen and is waterproof...I want it for fishing the many Newfoundland ponds in my canoe, so it will get splashed. I am wondering if I can get a float to attach to it in case it goes over the side. It takes 2 very common AA batteries so that shouldn't be a problem. I read that I can use the Basecamp software I downloaded from Garmin to plan trips, and the software will send the route to the GPS; I am looking forward to trying that. I will also get some US maps so I can find my way around cities when I am vacationing. It comes with a belt clip. Note that I had to buy a memory card for the GPS, but they are not expensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars great gps Nov. 17 2013

This is a great GPS, It is not too big, not too small. Fits well in hand and the Garmin mounts are pretty good and hold the device well.
Could use a bit more backlight but...it is really not that bad.
Use rechargeable batteries since it does run out batteries pretty quick ( like 8hrs if you let the screen shut but the GPS is tracking).
