This review is from: General Alphabetical Index to Townlands and Towns, Parishes and Baronies of Ireland: Based on the Census of Ireland for the Year 1851 (Hardcover)
Although this is available on-line, holding the book in hand to methodically review various spellings is so much easier for me. This book is indispensable for early research in Ireland. It helps make sense of the research in the deeds, memorials and transcripts. Contiguous lands are more easily identified. Additionally, the townlands, baronies and parishes which may be used interchangeably in the deeds, memorials and transcripts are grouped together in the book. This permits the researcher to recognize that the same piece of land may have alternate descriptors in deeds several decades removed from each other. Am looking forward to in depth study of this book's references and comparing those with the deeds, memorials and transcripts.
