This album is a must have if your musiv collection needs something new and interesting. Since I have discovered the Carolina Chocolate Drops I listen all the time. they are amazing and take you back to a time when life simple and less rushed. When I listen I am transported back in time and appreciate the break from this rat race.

Young America's current embrace of what is now termed "old time" music - the jumble of blues, folk, country and jug band from the 20s and 30s - has scarcely extended to black musicians. This youthful trio are a notable exception. Their second album is a more playful, accomplished affair than their debut, applying banjo, fiddle and spoons to antique numbers but also turning Blu Cantrell's R&B hit "Hit 'Em Up Style" into a backyard stomp. Tom Waits's "Trampled Rose" doesn't fare so well but classically trained Rhiannon Giddens delivers a lovely, a cappella "Reynardine", extending the group's reach from Carolina to old England. Great ensemble, great album. I love the blending of bluegrass, blues and even acoustic hip-hop elements (Track 4:Hit'em up style). If you're looking for something fresh with deep roots, this is a great album. It's all acoustic with an emphasis on old time fiddle'n and percussion. NOTE: I gave it 4-stars as this is a solid album. For me, 5-stars is a true all-time great classic (as good as it gets); this is just a notch down from that.
