Product Description

Review

Praise for George R. R. Martin and A Song of Ice and Fire

“The only fantasy series I’d put on a level with J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings . . . It’s a fantasy series for hip, smart people, even those who don’t read fantasy.”—Chicago Tribune

“Martin amply fulfills the first volume’s promise and continues what seems destined to be one of the best fantasy series ever written.”—The Denver Post, on A Clash of Kings

“Martin has produced—is producing, since the series isn’t over—the great fantasy epic of our era. It’s an epic for a more profane, more jaded, more ambivalent age than the one Tolkien lived in.”—Lev Grossman, Time

“Addictive . . . George R. R. Martin has created the unlikely genre of the realpolitik fantasy novel.”—Rolling Stone, on A Feast for Crows

“Epic fantasy as it should be written: passionate, compelling, convincingly detailed and thoroughly imagined.”—The Washington Post, on A Dance with Dragons

“I always expect the best from George R. R. Martin, and he always delivers.”—Robert Jordan

Quick Review (TL;DR)
These books are great. Expansive well described settings and extremely complex and detailed characters. You'll find yourself loving character you hated in a previous books and feeling compassion for psychopathic torturers.
Nothing happens the way you think it'll happen and no one you want to live lives. Everyone dies except for the ones you expect to.
I would highly recommend reading this series as long as you don't mind waiting 1-2 decades as the following books are released.

Fuller Review:

--If you want to support a story you enjoy and get the entire series at the same time you should buy this. --

All my life I've been waiting for something like this story. Every time I watched a movie where the good guy had some kind of distress or trouble and the bad guy seemed ahead, I still always knew who would win. As I am sure you all did. (granted this applies more to shows/movies than to books)

Every time a fairy tale ending occurred with the action hero walking into the sunset with his girl, I got tired. Every. Single. Time.

Good guy wins, bad guy loses/gets away and everyone is happily ever after. Sure there are some exceptions, but not really. Either everyone dies at the end or some other trope occurs. But the bad guy never wins over. Not at the end. Like some horribly boring, predictable formula.

This is the show I've been waiting for. Everything you think will happen doesn't happen. Or it does and then does a complete 180. No predictability at all. I absolutely love it.
You hate the character who paralyzes kids and then you grow to like them and empathize with their flaws as they grow into their character.

Books 1 to 3 are excellent, books 4 and 5 introduce poor language (the F. word is not necessary and completely out of place in this story) and the story telling is particularly slow and uninteresting for the most part...the ''Arya'' story is dragged to the point where it becomes completely ridiculus, it would have been better and more interesting to concentrate on other character stories...hopefully the 6th and 7th book will renew with more adequate language, more action and fast paced reading to keep the reader's interest instead of putting them to sleep, and stop killing characters and bringing them back later ...

I have a Prime membership and it still came a day before the expected delivery date. None of the books or the cardboard case had any damage to them. It was packaged well with a lot of scrunched up paper stuffing. They are paperback books but I'm beginning to find the benefits of these books over hardcover. I can easily put it in my purse to read during my commute to school and it doesn't weigh a tonne. The price is great. I saw the same book set minus the 5th book at Walmart and it cost $15 more.
Loving reading the books so far and I can't wait to finish all of them.

If you are a fan of GRRM's series, this is a must have. With each book containing 800 pages or so, and five books in the series to date, that's a lot of paper to be lugging around. Get the eBook and enjoy the bloodfest anywhere. Song of Ice and Fire is a thrilling medieval action/adventure saga, loaded with characters you love to hate, and filled with surprising twists and turns in each book.

Although I am only on book three, I love how well they are written and how close it is to the show. I usually find that books are better at explaining some of the hidden meaning or feelings of characters and these are the Aha moments I'm having comparing the book to the show. Now I'm understanding why certain things are/have happened.

I was excited to get the set of "A song of ice and fire" and was very pleased when I rec'd this 7 piece set. I had already owned the smaller sized set of 5 but in my generosity I gave them to my brother to read..Thinking that the set of 7 books was a longer read I ordered the second set to replenish my library..thinking that there were two further books to read.. Wrong..because they are a physically larger set they are published in more volumes, so the set of seven is actually the same set of five..Having owned both sets I prefer the set of seven, myself...Love the set and was pleased with the seller.
Hugs
John

Why watch TV. This is a very well written, engaging story line that should keep you reading well for at least a Harry Potter length of series time... Also very good in its book-tape format... started it on a road-trip as a book tape... 36 hours per book... great stuff...
