This saw would not cut more than a 1/2" deep before binding in the wood. I checked the thickness of the blade at the spine with micrometers and then checked the thickness at the teeth. They were the same. This is a pull cut saw and there was no space once the cut was made for the blade...the teeth are NOT set. I figured that in a pinch it might work. I was WRONG!!! I ordered this saw just a few weeks ago, did the test cut and put it up. I took it out over the weekend to cut a 1 1/2" dia limb...and the blade snapped in half about an inch from the handle on the THIRD CUT!!! Ping...there goes the blade!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS JUNK!!! It is made in China and is not worth the cardboard it was packaged in!!! VERY DISSATISFIED with this purchase and will NEVER get another Gerber product!

I've used several brands of collapsible pac saws and Gerber is the top of my list. The sliding blade is not only stable but eliminates the use of a hinge others use which is a point of weakness in any saw or tool for that matter. Some complain about binding or bending but I've never had a problem. That's probably because I don't use it as a buck saw but instead as a handy saw for small (less than 4"diameter) limbs and trees. The blade cuts on the draw and works with little effort by the user if they will keep in mind they are not a lumberjack.

This is a great concept for a lightweight camping or backpacking saw. All the materials seem to be of excellent quality.Unfortunately, the folks at Gerber/Fiskars decided that the blade didn't need flared teeth. As a result, the kerf is the same width as the blade and the saw binds in all but the smallest cuts. Maybe the sliding handle couldn't be made to work with a flare-tooth blade but without it the saw is really only useful for twigs and very small limbs.
