This review is from: German Movies the Ufa Years (Audio CD)
Classic German Movie Songs: The UFA years. Although UFA spans a great deal of years the 29 songs are in chronological order from 1930 through 1944. You may want to pick up a complimentary book as "The UFA Story".

Many of the films are still available or just becoming available with the advent of DVD. Many computers and region free DVD can display the films.

Includes music from:

5.0 out of 5 stars Charming "Escapism" From Germany's Darkest Era, May 22 2001
By
Michael Mathena "Michael Mathena" (Valley City, Ohio) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The 29 tracks on this CD capture the glory days of Nazi Germany's UFA Film Studios. Many of the songs are very well known "hits of the day", such as titles by Marika Rokk and Hans Albers. In the days of black & white movie theatre fantasy, songs like "Das gibt's nur einmal" and "Goodbye Johnny" lit up the screens in Germany just as much as did Fred & Ginger's "Cheek to Cheek" across the Atlantic. -- It was a dark time in Germany's history; making it even more necessary for its citizens to escape the grim reality. During the 1930s and 40s the UFA Studios provided entertainment that took people away, even if only for an hour or two. A 3 minute musical number could work miracles then. -- This is a fine selection of songs that will be appreciated by anyone who is familiar with this kind of music. I'm not old enough to recall the "olden days", but I enjoy the classic movies, and even more so the beautiful carefree songs featured in them. This CD is a gem!
