Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Get Born, the debut album by young Melbourne group Jet, works--and works very well--on a couple of levels. The first, and most obvious, is as a lengthy game of "Spot the Riff". Jet seem to have adopted Oscar Wilde's dictum "talent borrows, but genius steals" as their band motto, and as such are not shy about acknowledging their influences. Opening track "Last Chance" bears more than a passing resemblance to the Cult's "Li'l Devil", the baleful ballad "Move On" is a very slight rewrite of the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want", "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" helps itself to the chugging rhythm guitar part from Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life", "Cold Hard Bitch" could be any one of half a dozen AC/DC songs, and so on, for 13 hugely entertaining tracks: it could even serve as an ice-breaking party game.

The really good news, though, is that Get Born stands up perfectly respectably as a rock album on its own merits. Like their approximate contemporaries the Kings of Leon, the White Stripes and the Darkness, Jet approach their hoary influences with a fresh, invigorating enthusiasm, and recycle them with such an exuberant guilelessness that any tendency the listener might have towards cynicism is suspended. There is nothing here you haven't heard in a thousand other records, but Jet wear these threadbare clothes with such poise and conviction that it doesn't matter: Get Born rocks. --Andrew Mueller

The best in hard rock May 29 2004
Format:Audio CD
Hard rock was one of the dying genres in the past decade. Except for bands like STP, there were absolutely no good hard rock/metal bands. Until Jet came along. Jet is a four piece hard rock outfit from the land of the down under. They play loud, raw, hard rock n roll in the style of AC/DC and The Black Crowes. This is the best hard rock band to hit the circuit since Nirvana. Any fan of hard rock, heavy metal, garage rock, classic rock, and even oldies should get this album, because the band mixes all of those styles.

Fun, but not lost in a sea of 'indies' (3.5 stars) Jun 3 2006
By momo_adachi TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
The raunchy rock sound of Jet's first single "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" attracted me to pick up 'Get Born' and although the country-tinged, bland ballads were, for the most part, a disappointment, I was pleased with the fun, loud, classic rock-inspired tracks which made me want to drink a few beers at a frat party and dance all night. Although the timing of this album was bad (with many other sound-alike acts coming out of the woodworks at the release of the album, Australia's newest 'thunder' couldn't quite compete with bands like American indie rockers The White Stripes) the album is a whole lot of fun. Will Jet be remembered for lyrical content, seriousness and artistry? Sadly, probably not. But the album's wild sensability and old school rock sound are worth the price of admission. Fans of 'Back in Black' era AC/DC, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The White Stripes and The Hives will dig Jet's signature sound.

Jet should be sued for copying the Beatles Jan 7 2006
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Jet's hit song "Look What You've Done" has copied 3 songs by the Beatles so closely - I'm surpised they have not been sued yet. The opening piano is the same as "Golden Slumbers - Beatles Abby Road". The chorus "Oh, look what you've done, you've made a fool of everyone." is what John Lennon sings in "Sexie Sadie - Beatles The White Album". Lastly, during the chorus the music changes slightly and copies "Carry That Weight - Beatles Abby Road".

Is this what music is coming down to? Randomly take different Beatles songs - cut & paste and release it as a hit? Listen to the 3 Beatles song's I've listed and you'll understand that Jet needs to be taken to court.
