Product Description

Life isn’t all sunny in Fort Lauderdale’s Lanai Gardens. Returning from a blissful double honeymoon with her sister Evvie, Gladdy Gold announces that she wants her new hubby, Jack, to join her detective agency. But Gladdy’s gals say no dice, and soon Ida, Sophie, and Bella are striking out on their own, enrolling in a class to learn how to be real PIs.

But there’s more than enough trouble for two detective agencies when sultry Joyce Steiner moves in, reopening an old rivalry with Arlene Simon, whose husband ran off with Joyce fifty-five years earlier. When Joyce is found murdered, Arlene becomes the prime suspect, and Gladdy and her girls will have to band together if they’re going to prove that the truth is not just elusive but a real killer.

This was one of the better installments in this series. The characters really came to life & the story line was comical as well! I'm not going to give up the plot of this book, but I will say the ending really surprised me! Very well written, funny & engaging! This book has it all & is a must read for cozy mystery lovers!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wishing for a cure for Joe, Aug 15 2011

In my opinion, this series is getting better the longer it's around. Getting Old Can Kill You brings back the entire gang and adds a couple of newcomers as its main focus. Former rivals for the affections of a self-centered plastic surgeon reunite in Gladys Gold's backyard and provides the focus for the ladies new case. Joining them is Gladys' new husband and his detective son. The addition of the male element causes dissension in the ranks of Gladys' ladies however and they decide to form their own PI agency, headed by irritable Ida. Their new sidekick Rico (hopefully he will become permanent member of the gang) adds a bit of relief from 'old oldsters all the time' and his addition to the group actually works! As usual a solution is happily reached and the ladies, hopefully, will have many new adventures to look forward to.

Note....find a cure for Joe, please....and it would be nice to fully understand the background for Ida's never relenting anger toward the majority of the human race!

I enjoy reading mysteries, Science Fiction, fantasy, etc. This series is a great read, lots of fun, and gives you a whole new slant on life. It's hard to put down and I read it in just 2 days. The Sadie Gold's Detective group splits up because worries about the new husbands might take over. This mistaken idea causes hard feelings which makes it hard to admit they were wrong and threatens friendships. It was very good.
