4.0 out of 5 stars Love never dies, indeed, Jun 25 2011

This review is from: Ghost Whisperer S4 (DVD)
Like the other seasons, there is NO subtitles despite what the box claims in regard to close captioning.

This is the season Eli replaces Rick Payne who goes on that sabbatical that was posponed in the shortened third season.

As for the format... they once again decided to scatter the bonus features throughout the disks, threatening to ruin the dramatic tension for anyone who actually stopped to watch them (basically a crime this season) [the feature on the first disk reveals a twist from the second, the feature from the second basically gives away everything up to the fifth disk] which is doubly disappointing because the back of the disk cases go out of their way to not ruin anything through the episode descriptions. There is not a single commentary this season, which is unfortunate, since I very fondly remember yelling at my TV during most of this season and being overjoyed when the plot resolved itself and wouldn't have mnided some insight into the thought process behind some of the key episodes. And finally, the "webisodes" were distinctly low quality this season, serving only to remind me that the guy from the two previous "seasons" never did get his cameo on Ghost Whisperer...

Of course, it's bittersweet to see the show build so beautifully on past comments by Jim and Melinda, then seeing Jim working on the garage only to have another man move in when he leaves--and I can't help but miss Professor Payne during this season [I just feel that he would have been more supportive and helpful than Eli (much like Andrea would have been when compared to Delia) though he certainly might have made some inappropriate comments]--but if not for the failure to consider the plot/dramatic ramifications of the bonus features (especially when the "interactive" items could have easily been slotted on earlier disks without ruin anything) I gladly would have given this season 5-stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best shows on TV, Dec 5 2009
By Brian Kelly - Published on Amazon.com

In an era of really bad TV, Ghost Whisperer is something very special. The writers took a risk in season 4 with this Sam character, but in the end it brought an interesting twist to the series. If you enjoy shows that deal with the supernatural, you will like this show.

2.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite shows takes an absurd, soapy turn, July 8 2009
By Marlaas "marlaas" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Ghost Whisperer S4 (DVD)
I've had an embarrassingly deep affection for Ghost Whisperer since the first episode. I generally like 'edgier', more clever programming, but Ghost Whisperer has always provided the uplifting, inspirational, poignant and just plain entertaining mood-boost that even a cynic like I am found really refreshing!

This season, though, was a crushing disappointment. In what seems like a desperate bid to be 'SHOCKING', the show killed off dull but sweetly supportive Jim...only to transplant him into another body and waste untold amounts of melodramatic screen time on 'Jim is Sam but really still Jim' nonsense that's somehow even stupider than it may sound. This predictable, repetitive melodrama took valuable screen time away from developing the show's ghost stories or actually exploring the spirit world.

Combine this with the introduction of the least appealing regular in this show's history---the vaguely unpleasant Eli, who's like Professor Payne of earlier seasons but without the humor and charm---and you have a season that had even a diehard GW lover like I am ready to give up on the series.

I'd recommend spending your money on earlier seasons, which feature interesting ghost stories and a blend of mood-boosting sweetness and charm that's lacking in this one.

Most likely you've already seen the shows on TV so really you just want a copy for review again.
So I'm now watching First season over again again then I might list because of pending move!
