Much ado about Nothing, Nov 1 2006
This review is from: Ghostly Charade (Paperback)
I generally enjoy holiday based books, in this case Halloween, and I love regency romances, but this book doesn't capture the quality of either genre. In this book, the widowed Lady Caroline goes to her sister Phoebe's aid in finding the "ghost" that is trying to scare her out of marrying Clarence Grayson, Earl of Alverstoke.
Lady Caroline is often referred to as clever yet she can't seem to figure out who is really trying to kill her future brother-in-law. In fact she never does and all is revealed to her, by others in the end. There is a lot of filler and no meat in this book. The romance is nearly non-existent as Lady Caroline is suspicious of her "love" until the last 10 pages.
This would have made a good short story and at 320 pages is probably 280 pages too long. If you like Sheila Rabe, you would be much better off reading her other holiday fare such as "All I Want for Christmas" even though it is set in the contempory era.
