1.0 out of 5 stars Has some content that may not be appropriate for younger kids Mar 4 2013
By Jason Fant - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
My 11 year old daughter purchased this book from her elementary school book fair. While she has all the dolls and has seen all the videos, which are all very cute, on page 23 of the book is a line about sexting. It definitely isn't graphic by any means and not core the the story line, but it did leave me with my 5th grader asking what sexting is.

We're not prudish parents by any means, but that assumes a level of maturity in a reader that many grade school kids aren't ready for. If yours is, more power to them, but I thought it would be prudent to let other parents that may not want their child reading about it know that its in there. I'm not preaching one way or the other, but I think its important for parents to be able to make informed decisions about what their little kids are reading.

If the author feels the need to explore such topics with her readers, the publisher should at least give parents a heads up since they are marketing it to elementary school kids.

1.0 out of 5 stars Language not appropriate for kids... Mar 16 2013
By M. Lavender - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
My 9 year old bought this book at our elementary school book fair. She started reading it right away and within the first day showed me where one character says "high dam!". A few days later she came home from school showing me where the characters are talking about "sexting". We then took the book away and I have contacted the leader of the book fair and will complain to Scholastic also. I glanced through the book some more, the characters call another character a "bee-och". Again, not for elementary kids. I don't know who this book would be appropriate for. Hope this helps concerned parents make a good decision on this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED it!!! April 14 2011

I'd purchased the first Monster High book on a whim, as my daughter is into the dolls. I quickly discovered that the book is very different from the background given for the dolls, but that did not detract from my enjoyment of the story. I enjoyed it immensely, laughed out loud, and nearly screamed in frustration when I turned the page and discovered the book had ended!
Last night I read the second book, and absolutely loved it! I laughed out loud and growled in frustration when this one ended. Now I will impatiently await the release of the third one this fall...

*I may be 33 and not into fashion, and was totally clueless about the music references, but I was reminded so much of one of my favorite shows that I enjoyed every word! (The super cute know they're cute and they make fun of the frumpily-dressed girl, it's a little like Ugly Betty). Definitely a great read if you want to "escape from reality" for a few hours!
