Before reading this book, when someone said to me, "If you want to heal, just get in touch with your inner child," I had no idea of the process, other than journaling exercises. This book took the hand of my inner child and led me along. Beautiful. I really do see the world a whole lot differently than I did before reading this simple yet profound book. The autohypnosis exercises were deeply intimate and took me to places I had not previously visited. Thank you to Ms. Sinor for her insight and expertise.

"I received this book for free from ReviewTheBook.com and from Loving Healing Press Inc. in Ann Arbor, Michigan for this review."

I wanted to learn all about my own "child within" and thus decided to do a free book review. This book addresses so many self help issues that many individuals seem to have. I was a victim of my circumstances, or so I thought. I think recovery is the key to self healing and a process that makes us look at our old patterns and wounds from our childhood. This book addresses just that! If you have been traumatized and violated in any form this book walks you step by step on how to recovery and some may take a lifetime to overcome depending on the issue.

Quote from Chapter 7: "We heal by remembering, literally bringing back into the wholeness of our being that which we have lost by hiding it from ourselves." ~ Joan Borysenko

The codependency chapter on page 119 brought some self reflection for me! I learned that if we put "conditions" on others in order to get them to love us, then that is a form of false love. For example, "I will do anything you say, be anything you want" is a conditional statement of non-loving. Whereas unconditional love says, "I love myself and desire to share that love with you." I have to say this is the way I was raised as a child and I have to learn to overcome this as an adult.

I know that I do not want to be a "victim" of life and that I want the freedom of choice. Although it is going to be a learning process and Barbra really does help my inconsistencies with all of my own issues. If you want to learn to recover and do positive affirmations this journey will take time, but it is well worth doing in order to be your authentic self.

A highly significant contribution Sept. 15 2008
By John E. Smethers, PhD - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Gifts From the Child Within reveals the potentialities of the human condition to heal the wounds caused by childhood trauma with the aide of unconscious processes. Dr. Sinor's methods for changing one's internalized picture of reality through Re-Creation therapy is a testament to psychotherapeutic progress. Without the conscious transformation that is required for recovery, she says that most people stay trapped in a mind-set regarding world views, beliefs, goals, motives, values, love, and compassion. This is a significant contribution to humanity.

Self Discovery and Recovery Through ReCreation Therapy, Groundbreaking! May 24 2010
By Lauri Crumley Coates - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Gifts From The Child Within: Self-Discovery and
Self-Recovery through ReCreation Therapy,
2nd Edition
Author: Barbara Sinor
Publisher: Loving Healing Press
ISBN: 978-1-932690-46-0

Gifts From The Child Within is a beautifully written, incredibly moving and potentially life changing workbook for self discovery and recovery through Re-Creation Therapy.

Many of the emotional, mental and even physical problems we face as adults can be traced back to a childhood trauma or experience. To work through the issues of today, it's often of vital importance to discover and work through the issues of childhood.

Dr. Sinor is an advocate of the use of Re-Creation Therapy. Re-Creation Therapy is a transforming process; reaching for and touching the child that still resides within all of us. When we accept the child we were and the trauma and expperiences we were subject to, we can release the blockages and pain of childhood that have followed us into adulthood. Divided into several parts, the book enables the reader to work through issues that still affect them at the speed they are comfortable with.

Part One deals with helping the reader comprehend and understand what the concept of "The Child Within" really means. With examples and exercises, reasders will be better able to reach their inner children and understand what issues are still being carried within.

Parts Two and Three offer visualizations, affirmations, exercises and the use of autohypnosis to begin the recovery process. With space left blank within the book, it can be used as an actual journal, tracking the reader's progress thoughout the stages of both discovery and recovery.

The author has presented the information in a way that allows for use by both the professional and layperson. Written in an easily understandable and conversational style, the reader will feel they are working with a friend, and feel the ability to open up and work through the baggage and issues carried forward from childhood. One of the things I found particularly helpful was that the program is set up to be worked at the reader's own pace and on a schedule and timing that allows the user to fully digest the information they discover at their own speed; avoiding the stress that comes with a need to maintain a stringent deadline, working on a particular issue until you feel you've worked through it.
A "Gift" That Provides A Way To One's Truth July 8 2013
By Holli - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I am attracted to recovery books that are filled with gentle methodologies and courageous challenges which take the reader on a compassionate journey of self-exploration - navigating through one's past/present pain-fields while discovering or rediscovering one's truths. Dr. Sinor's book - "Gifts From the Child Within" - is no exception. She eases the reader into the psychology behind her transpersonal approach; she then weaves her recovery story as well as the narratives of other individuals into the understanding of and integration of Re-Creation Therapy; and she provides ample guidance for pacing and processing of the therapeutic practices, as well as purposeful exercises within and at the end of each chapter. Although every chapter is essential to the overall work, I was drawn to Chapter 8 - "The Saboteurs" - and Dr. Sinor's attention of the emotions of fear, anger, guilt, and shame . As Dr.Sinor writes, " The facing of an emotion may be a difficult task but when followed through can lead to an understanding of what that emotion represents, what its message may be. " Dr. Sinor explains the impact of harmful life messages or `scripts'; and more importantly, she guides us through their removal and their replacement with healthy healing truths. In her closing, Dr. Sinor adds, "In childhood we learned to survive, however, now we press forward to seek our truth. We let go of the past and its woundedness and find we have gained a present and a future." Thank you, Dr. Sinor, for giving us a "Gift" that does indeed provide a way to finding and claiming our truths.
