Valuable Picture Book for Childhood Diabetes June 26 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Perfect Paperback
Gigi Has Diabetes is a highly valuable book, especially considering the increase in the childhood diabetes cases in recent years. After she finds out that she has diabetes, Gigi and her mother buy a book that explains all about diabetes to children. This book does just the same in an edifying story that young readers and their parents can immediately relate to.

The book goes into the details about the diagnosis and management of diabetes in children. The colorful illustrations complement the tale with action and fun visual aids to reassure the young reader that diabetes can be handled in her everyday life. This is also a succinct tome for parents and caregivers to read in order to educate themselves and the diabetic children under their care. It is a must for all homes, classrooms, doctor's offices, and clinics where there are diabetic children. It is well recommended for all ages with diabetes, but especially for young readers 7-12 years of age.
A great book for children with diabetes July 10 2013

This book is a great read for any parent with a child living with diabetes. This book outlines the important lifestyle changes and precautions that every diabetic needs to follow. It helps break down the condition in a child friendly format so that they are not scared, stressed, or worried about their health. It allows the reader, and the child, to restructure how they view diabetes and the book presents it in a way that is manageable and less freighting than usual. Diabetes is a manageable condition and you can still live a normal childhood if the proper precautions and rules are followed. Pick up this book and teach your children how to responsibly live with diabetes.

My family and I found this book very helpful in learning more about the disease. The vocabulary is very easy to follow and the pictures make it better to understandable for children. The characters in the book welcome the disease and show how easy it can be to adjust to a new lifestyle with diabetes. Though there may be other health books about this topic, Gigi has Diabetes, explains in depth about illness and ways to treat it. It talks about insulin and carbohydrate, but in a basic way so kids can understand. It really is a great book for children either with diabetes or curious about the disease.
Fantastic Childrens Book! July 15 2013

This book, written for children, also taught me a lot about diabetes. The book explains the disease in a very basic way for children to understand. In the book, Gigi is diagnosed with Diabetes and her pediatrician Dr. Mandino works together with Gigi and her Mother to help understand and manage diabetes. When they return home they share what they learned with the family. It is true, even if your child does not have diabetes, with the increased incidence in children, they will eventually know a child with diabetes. This book will help your child understand what exactly diabetes is.
Best Diabetes Kids Book July 9 2013

Gigi Has Diabetes is a great resource for any child that has just been diagnosed with diabetes. It is also a great book for children that have a child in their class or a friend that has diabetes. The book explains how diabetes affects your body, and also discusses the steps of how to check your blood sugar level. My favorite part was when the main Character, Gigi, gets an injection and realizes it was as bad as she thought. A wonderful book that I highly recommend. After buying this book, I purchased the other 3 books in the series, which I also recommend.
