I have to say, I loved this movie! I watched the Swedish films and there is something about this English remake that is just... intriguing. This has to do alot with the soundtrack. The music is so brilliantly executed within the film that it pulls you in to the story, if you weren't already fascinated by the story presented to you. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross do an amazing job of recreating the characters within the songs. Lizabeth Salandar is such a complex character and the song that plays right before the credits (The scene where Lizabeth bought Mikael a leather jacket and throws it away). It is slightly haunting but overwhelmingly beautiful. That describes Lizabeth so well. She is beautiful but is haunted with so many memories.

This review is getting very wordy, and I'm sorry. But this soundtrack is AMAZING. It is over 3 hours long spanning over 3 discs. The packaging is very slick and suits its Bluray or DVD release respectively. It folds out like the DVD and has some artwork. It is a big case, but not in a bad way. For $18 dollars (tax not included) this feels like a steal. It is beautiful and very imaginative. You can imagine scenes or scenarios when listening. Not necessarily from the film, but the sounds that blend together form such a powerful sound that it creates images within your imagination. At least for me it did.

I am trying to make this review about the soundtrack and not the film, but they work SO well together. Being a obsessive fan the soundtrack was a no-brainer, but even for someone who is looking for a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack will surely be impressed.

I love the soundtrack, I love the movie, I love the books, and you should too! For the price that is asking, you are a fool not to pick this one up.

***** - Buy it. It's brilliant.

The opening tack is a great new cover of Led Zeppelins Immigrant song. The rest is great mood music from the movie. With 3 discs you get a lot of music here for your money.

Beautifuly crafted, but the overall result lacks in unity and depth. Good ideas. Not enough raw emotional involvement. I think the final result would have benefited to be shorter. There are some useless repetitions, and some pieces lack in density. Needless to to these critics are about an excellently produced musical score.

Like Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Robert Fripp, etc. Trent Reznor seems to work on different musical plain then most artists. I don't know if these people hear music differently or if they are just way more talented then your average musician. That being said this soundtrack is amazing. You can hear artist like later day Talk Talk and anytime you hear spacy ambient music you know you have to give a nod to Brian Eno but as always this somehow sounds like Trent Reznor. As those of you know that listen to NIN Trent's soundtrack work is different to that work (although the NIN CD ghost is roughly in that same ball park). I really enjoyed this for a couple of reasons. First it's good music. Second if you put it on low it's great background music but if you turn it up there is more then enough to keep you engaged thru all three CD's. There are a couple of songs with vocals (neither of which are sung by Reznor). The cover of Led Zep's "the Immagrent Song" works very well. Roughly the same arrangment but with a completely different feel. Very interesting version that totally works. The other song is a cover of "is your love strong enough" by Brian Ferry. Great song but nothing special about this version. Interesting but (in my opinion) doesn't really work.
This is for sure one of the better soundtracks of the last few years. If you like Reznor's work, or ambient music this should keep you interest.

Good day,

Fyi, I did not receive the product The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (CD), deliver date January 17 2012. Actually, I did receive the envelope of this product but it was not folded. So as a result, there was nothing inside this envelope.

Regards,

Erik Roby
