I have to say, I loved this movie! I watched the Swedish films and there is something about this English remake that is just... intriguing. This has to do alot with the soundtrack. The music is so brilliantly executed within the film that it pulls you in to the story, if you weren't already fascinated by the story presented to you. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross do an amazing job of recreating the characters within the songs. Lizabeth Salandar is such a complex character and the song that plays right before the credits (The scene where Lizabeth bought Mikael a leather jacket and throws it away). It is slightly haunting but overwhelmingly beautiful. That describes Lizabeth so well. She is beautiful but is haunted with so many memories.
This review is getting very wordy, and I'm sorry. But this soundtrack is AMAZING. It is over 3 hours long spanning over 3 discs. The packaging is very slick and suits its Bluray or DVD release respectively. It folds out like the DVD and has some artwork. It is a big case, but not in a bad way. For $18 dollars (tax not included) this feels like a steal. It is beautiful and very imaginative. You can imagine scenes or scenarios when listening. Not necessarily from the film, but the sounds that blend together form such a powerful sound that it creates images within your imagination. At least for me it did.
I am trying to make this review about the soundtrack and not the film, but they work SO well together. Being a obsessive fan the soundtrack was a no-brainer, but even for someone who is looking for a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack will surely be impressed.
I love the soundtrack, I love the movie, I love the books, and you should too! For the price that is asking, you are a fool not to pick this one up.
***** - Buy it. It's brilliant.
