Following in the footsteps of her fellow Spice Girls, Emma Bunton's A Girl Like Me is in keeping with the solo-spice ethic of not making a CD which sounds like your band mates. It is pop but not as you would expect. For the most part it's an easy listening jangley guitar sound with the odd experiment here and there. "World Without You" is reminiscent of the Spice Girls "2 Become 1" whereas "Been There Done That" and "She Was a Friend" sound like they could have been used in the Forever sessions. There are two cover versions; Edie Brickell's "What I Am" which did the rounds in 1999 and a re-working of Zoe's "Sunshine on a Rainy Day", produced in a similar style to that of Madonna ("Don't Tell Me"). A standout track aside from the first single ("What Took You So Long?") is "Better Be Careful", contemporary northern soul which could be described as SpiceWorld's "Stop" being covered by Texas. A Girl Like Me is a great debut album with a mature sound which could mark the end of Baby Spice and the arrival of Emma Bunton. --Georgina Collins

This album is much better than I expected. When the Spice Girls were together I really like Emma but she was everyone's I knew favourite so I kind of shadowed her. When she came out with this album, I heard the single 'What I Am' and didn't like it. I thought it was not Emma at all BUT I picked this album up anyways and I am glad I did. 'What Took You So Long' and 'Spell It Out' grabbed my attention and I finally realized why Emma was everyone's favourite. She's got a sweet voice and amazing hooks. A great album for a summer day.

An awesome album, a Pop album at its best. The songs are well written and properly organized, not to mention catchy. Ive always though Emma was the most talented of the Spice Girl. Her voice is just unforgettable and infectious, if you listen to Spice GIrls music, you can hear that she was the main chorus voice of the group, and with this album, she was able to show her talent not just as a singer, but a songwriter, and solidified herself in the music industry. Cant wait for her next album.

This album is awsome!!! Every song on this CD is great. She should have never been with the spice girls to begin with. She is so much better solo. What suprised me is that her music style is very different from her style with the spice girls. you should buy this album without a second thought!!!!!!!!
