Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

The folks of Lake Charles, La., are still recovering from Bobbie Faye Sumrall's first explosive adventure, Bobbie Faye's (Very, Very, Very) Bad Day (2007), when Francesca Despré, Bobbie Faye's cousin, demands her assistance in recovering valuable diamonds Francesca's eccentric artist mother, Marie, hid before vanishing in this rollicking sequel. Supposedly, Emile, Marie's estranged husband, has put a hit out on Marie in the event the diamonds aren't recovered. The Department of Homeland Security is also interested—ditto assorted international criminals. Reluctant to get involved, Bobbie Faye winds up getting abducted by some thugs and is later rescued by the dashing Trevor Cormier, an undercover FBI agent. Meanwhile, Det. Cameron Moreau, Bobbie Faye's old boyfriend, investigates the shooting of a local jeweler that could land Bobby Faye in jail. Though the pace is almost too fast and frantic, Causey's masterful depiction of Cajun country and Bobbie Faye's irrepressible spirit redeem this colorful caper. (June)

4.0 out of 5 stars Bobbie Faye Returns, May 27 2008
By book lover - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Bobbie Faye's (kinda, sorta, not exactly) Family Jewels (Paperback)
This follows up Bobbie Faye's Very, 'very, very, very' Bad Day. It starts up a couple months after the first disaster and many of the same characters appear. Bobby Faye is working at Ce Ce's store one day when her cousin Francesca shows up asking Bobbie Faye to help her find stolen diamonds her mother, Marie, hid somewhere. Francesca's father, Emile, head of a mob organization and the person Marie stole the diamonds from, thinks Bobbie Faye knows where they are at. Within the first several chapters of the book, Bobbie Faye is shot at, kidnapped on the same block by three separate groups of people, and her car blows up on a bridge, taking part of the bridge with it. So you could say the sequel starts off with a bang.

Throughout the book, we get to meet more of Bobbie Faye's crazy family, including her father, she blows up other things, comes near death several times, all while trying to figure out her feelings for Trevor 'well those feelings are pretty obvious' and Cam 'not so obvious'. Bobbie Faye is also accused of murder not once, but twice through the course of the book. Trevor and Cam know she is innocent and try to figure out a way to keep every cop in the state from killing her on sight.

Causey's second attempt with Bobbie Faye does not disappoint. However, I don't think it quite lives up to the first one. A little less time is spent on the action and running around 'just a little, there's still a lot of action' and more time is spent developing the relationship she has with Trevor and Cam. There are also a ton of characters in this book, sometimes a little difficult to keep track of. And I didn't laugh out loud quite as much as the first one. With all that being said, I was still highly entertained and liked the ending. I won't give too much away, but we find out a little more about best friend Nina at the end of book. Hmm.....perhaps we're setting up for a third installment?

5.0 out of 5 stars HILARIOUS, July 19 2009
By lawdragon - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Bobbie Faye's (kinda, sorta, not exactly) Family Jewels (Paperback)
Bobbie Fae is a force of nature, while being witty, brave, and competent. I found her extremely likable, and loved the fact that Bobbie Fae is not as dependent on male characters to fix her problems for her. She's a crack shot with a gun, tough, smart, creative, and has a personality bigger than her home state of Louisiana! She makes the mayor cry and hide under his desk since her adventures tend to be expensive, but it's not her fault everything keeps blowing up! It is easy to understand why her hometown adores her, and as a reader you will too! Whenever Bobbie Fae is around there is nonstop action and laughs.

Fans of the first Bobbie Fae book will not be dissappointed with this follow up! If you have not read Bobbie Fae's Very Very Very Bad Day I recommend reading that first, but make sure you have this one close at hand for when you finish reading! I laughed out loud many times while reading all of the Bobbie Fay books, and can't wait to read the 3rd which is out in summer 2009. As of summer 2009 they are also reprinting all the Bobbie Fae books in a smaller and less expensive paperback version (this review is for the more expensive "larger" paper back version).

The Bobbie Fae books are perfect for fans of funny mysteries or action/adventure. These books are perfect for the beach or whenever you want to get away and have a hearty laugh. I think these books would also make a great gift for the woman reader in your life, but do want to note that my 3 of my male friends have loved this book as well!

If you like Janet Evanovich, you will love Tony McGee Causey's books. While I love both writers, and I think the Bobbie Fae series is actually funnier than the Plumb books. I read about 8 books a week and am very familiar with most mystery writers; I can say that Causey is in my top 5 favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Exciting, Aug 21 2008
By Book Reader - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Bobbie Faye's (kinda, sorta, not exactly) Family Jewels (Paperback)
I don't often give reviews on the books I've read very much unless if I feel my review warrants attention! I'm a very picky on the books that I read and I'm an avid reader and extremely cautious on what books that seems interesting to me and it takes a lot of thought to pick out a book because I don't want to waste the money! Toni Mcgee Causey wrote a downright wonderful, hilarious, and sexy story of heroine Bobbie Faye. I was glued to this story, could not put this book down, laughed out loud until my ribs hurt..so enjoy this book..you will not waste your money (I hope!) :)
