Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Kaiser, purveyor of wildly charismatic characters, is sure to score another hit with this quirky, fast-moving novel set in and around Los Angeles. Back in 1978, pool builder Mac McGowan and wannabe starlet Stella St. George accidentally killed Stella's husband, Aubrey, after he caught them in bed together. Afraid they wouldn't be able to prove that Aubrey's death was accidental, Mac covered up the misdeed by burying the body under the ground where the pool foundation would be poured the next day. Later, he and Stella married. Fast forwarding to the present, Mac is now a wealthy man but his status gives him little comfort. He and Stella have separated (they'll never divorce because spouses cannot testify against each other and their secret still binds them together even if love no longer does), his actor son hates him for not supporting his film career and someone is sending him ominous notes that say, "I know what you did on Friday, October 13, 1978." When Mac hires gorgeous private investigator Jade Morro to find out who's behind the notes, she uncovers a murderous brother-sister team out to whack Mac, as well as a sexy East Indian filmmaker's scheme to con Mac out of a few million, which is thwarted by Mac's son, who has devious plans of his own. Kaiser (Fruitcake; Payback) has created a fine suspense novel with plenty of twists and turns. (Dec.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent mystery, Dec 2 2000
By Harriet Klausner - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Glamourpuss (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1978 West Los Angeles, Hollywood heavyweight Aubrey "GLAMOUR PUSS" St. George hires contractor Joseph "Mac" McGowen to construct a swimming pool on his property. Mac meets his client's wife Stella, a wannabe actress and in spite of knowing better, he soon has an affair with her. However, when Aubrey catches them in the act, he tries to beat up Stella, but Mac intercedes. During a scuffle Mac is knocked out, but when he awakens he learns he killed Aubrey when he shoved him. For the good of both their careers, Stella persuades Mac to bury Aubrey, which they do under the cement of the swimming pool.

Two decades later, Mac and Stella remain tied to the focal point of their lives. They were married and have a twenty-year-old son Troy. Although Mac is the biggest pool and spa contractor in Southern California, he remains haunted by Aubrey's death. However, a third party knows what happened on that fateful day. Mac turns to private investigator Jade Morro for help against an unknown enemy turning nastier and nastier by the day.

GLAMOUR PUSS is an exciting romantic suspense tale that sub-genre fans will fully enjoy. The story line is action-packed from the start and the key players, especially Stella and Mac are fully developed. Readers who prefer a taut thriller to complement the romance will want to peruse R.J. Kaiser's latest tale that accomplishes that and more.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Glamour Puss" Is Glamourously Good!, Nov 30 2000
By Brad Stonecipher - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Glamourpuss (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read all of R.J. Kaiser's novels and I have enjoyed almost everyone of them. I believe that "Glamour Puss" was definitely one of the best! Mr. Kaiser mixes a large dosage of suspense with a moderate dosage of romance. In 1978, Mac McGowan, an owner of a pool company, and his lover, Stella, who he was having an affair with, killed Stella's husband who was nicknamed "Glamour Puss" and buried his body underneath the foundation of their swimming pool. Now 22 years later, the past is creeping back on Mac and Stella, who are now separated. Mac is very rich now and he owns many pool corporations. Mac gets a note saying that someone knows what he and his lover did 22 years ago. Later another note follows and then the blackmailing begins! If that isn't bad enough, Mac and his business associate are being shot at by another person who holds a grudge aganist him because of some business problems! Mac and Stella race to decipher who this person that knows about their past is, before their glamourous lives turn to hell! R.J. Kaiser is a wonderful author of romantic suspense. I'm looking forward to his next novel in June of 2001!

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely One Of His Best!, Jan 28 2001

I've read all of Mr Kaiser's books and they get better and better. The story is so engaging, you can hardly wait to see how it ends. It ended just right. Mac is such a likable person, you hope for a good ending for him, in spite of his lapse in judgement. Two secrets that were revealed I'd already figured out, but it did not deter me in the least. Get comfortable before you start this book. It's a good one. I can't wait for Mr Kaiser's next novel. Enjoy!
