Vincent Mora just can't win. He's been shot, his girlfriend is about to be tossed off a balcony, and there's a vengeful creep looking to even a twisted score. Set against the tacky glitter of Atlantic City's billion-dollar casinos, this novel has all the classic Leonard touches.

Review

"Intense and inevitable... The talk is so true and tough and dirty that it sounds as if it had been wiretapped.... You almost have to read [Glitz] twice, the firsttime fast to find out what happens, the second time to savor it."-- "The New York Times"After finishing Glitz, I went out and bought everything by Elmore Leonard I could find.... You can put Glitz on the same shelf with your John D.MacDonalds, your Raymond Chandlers, your Dashiell Hammetts."--- "Stephen King, The New York Times Book Review""As quick and spare as a no-frills flight to Detroit, as contemporary as the crime rate... The man is a pro."-- "Los Angeles Times Book Review" --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I was dazzled by Leonard's writing here, but as the story progressed I didn't feel any simpathy for the sleazy characters or feel very intrested in the plot.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Elmore Leonard's greatest crime novels Mar 10 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Elmore Leonard is definitely my favorite author. The way he cruises through the text and keeps you hooked along every word is a talent only he posesses. GLITZ is one of Mr. Leonard's greatest crime novels, an intriguing work that hooks you from the first sentence and holds on to you until the finale.

Seven years ago, Teddy Magyk (a.k.a. "Mr. Magic") was imprisoned after Vincent Mora brought him down for raping a senior citizen. Now Teddy's out, and he wants revenge. But there are some things he didn't count on. One, Vincent Mora isn't going to go down without a fight; and two, Vincent still has the mean look in his eyes...

Here, Mr. Leonard has written a movie-like crime thriller that will definitely not leave his many fans disappointed. I highly recommend you go out and buy "Glitz".

My first leonard novel was Rum Punch,I have been hooked ever since.I have bought 15 of his books,Glitz is my overwhelming favorite.I often wonder why this novel has not been made into a movie. The way he goes from one scene to the next reminds me of the movie experience.Teddy is the most interesting character I can think of.If you could not find this book absolutely compelling, you may be comatose,or maybe you're just a jerk.
