4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Solutions, Dec 31 2008
By 5th of November (British Columbia, Canada) - See all my reviews
I bought this book for my children, who are not dumb at all, as an introduction to a global problem that I won't be able to hide from them. As a professional ecological restorationist who works with scientific data to predict ecological succession, I know that consequences of climate change are something that my children are going to have to live with. My grandchildren, too. . . and so on. . .
I was worried about scaring my children with the scientific data the book contains, but Ms. May and Ms. Caron have presented it with a good touch of humour; dark humour, but funny none-the-less. Moreover, the book is choke full of Solutions. It is very thorough in its presentation of the actions we can all take to minimize the damage we are causing to the planet through our consumption of fossil fuels. Good job, Authors!
What is more frightening than climate change however, is reviewers who say "There are a lot of books on Amazon which will explain the truth behind the issue. I don't expect this to be one of them. -Drinse". How can you in good conscience write a review of a book that you haven't read yet? That you 'don't expect' this book to be good indicates that you have not read it yet. But still you criticize it. That is pathetic and immoral. Please stop your negative propaganda against these two dedicated, hard working authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book with character!, Jan 27 2009
By Larissa Teoh (Toronto, Ontario) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The book Global Warming for Dummies encompasses all that is necessary for one to understand the entire green/sustainability movement. It provides historical background, facts, controversies, technical information, opinion, tips on how to decrease your environmental impact, and a great sense of humour. Whether you're new to the topic or just looking for a book to substantiate your knowledge, Global Warming for Dummies provides a vast foundation of information for all readers.

The authors are two that clearly care about the state of our Earth, and strive to influence all to make educated decisions. The provide options for everyone that aren't outrageous, but are merely common sense, and in the end, beneficial to all.

5.0 out of 5 stars why take the chance when we don't have to, Sep 27 2008
By AlbertaCondos Com "Corey O'Neil" (Airdrie AB) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
It is important to respond to the previous review with a request for action. I have also read and watched the evidence against and for "humanities role in global warming". In every case "against" that I researched I was able to find a link between the proposed evidence and personal or corporate gain. Leaving that aside, when global leading scientists are indicated there is a clear link between humanities activities and global warming, and that warming will cause severe weather patterns, which in turn will affect our ability to survive, why take the chance if we don't have to. Even if there is not a link between humanities activities and global warming the additional benefit of action on climate change is clean air, water and food. As a father I want this for my children and am concerned with our current path. May this book help everyone become a positive force in changing to a sustainable society. Please take action on learning what is happening to our world. Thanks to Elizabeth May for helping people recognize the need for change.
