Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Hailing from Vancouver, Canada, (aka Van City), Rascalz have achieved gold-status success, made Canadian history and garnered international respect--all while apparently promoting hip-hop as a legitimate art form and culture. The Rascalz' 20-track debut album, Global Warning features various cuts with some of the tightest acts in hip-hop, both legendary and underground, including KRS-One, Alchemist, Choclair, K-OS and the Beatnuts. Despite these credentials, Global Warning isn't going to set the world alight. It's pretty humdrum stuff with the prerequisite battle cusses, bland chat about "Ill looking girls with fat booties" and blustering "look at my chest, it's big" boasts. "Certain things in this life, money can't control" the crew spit on "Priceless", and you have to agree with them--their lyrics don't charm or engage and the DJ concentrates on simple (albeit pleasant) head-nodding beats rather than innovative sonic warfare. The five-piece manage to squeeze some average collaborations out of K-OS and reggae singer Barrington Levy on the jazz-tinged "Top Of The World" and KRS-One on "Where You At", but in a scene with some incredibly exciting MCs, it's not enough. The Rascalz are obviously huge fans of the Wu-tang Clan, even sampling "It's Yourz" on "C-IV". However, unlike Staten Island's finest, the Rascalz aren't a trangressive crew bringing the ruckus to all and sundry: neither will they re-write hip-hop history. --Na'solo So'Fahed

5.0 out of 5 stars Global Warning, Sep 4 2002

This review is from: Global Warning (Audio CD)
The rascalz are one of hip-hops most influential groups. They are a great inspiration to us all. Their work as musical artists and as people is outstanding among the rest. The lyrics throught the songs they sing help give us a new perspective and for me a new found respect for them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Global Warning More than another rap album, July 20 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Global Warning (Audio CD)
The beats on this album are varied. The tempos and feel change drastically from song to song. The lyrics are thoughtful. The two MC's have awesome contrasting voices. The Beatnuts kick. The Rascalz party hard, and make you think at the same time. If you like anyone from the Beatnuts to Common and The Roots, you'll love this album.
