Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Jesus returns at last in this 12th novel in the phenomenally popular Left Behind series, vanquishing his foes and ushering in a new millennium of peace and righteousness. Ray Steele is the only member of the original Tribulation Force alive to see it, however, since Buck Williams endures a bloody death in the opening pages. The novel’s pacing suffers greatly from its own foregone conclusion. Antichrist Nicolae Carpathia, once a fearsome and suave foe, is reduced to shrill hysteria in this installment, and seems more of a cartoon character than a credible instrument of Satan. And the final wars (there are four of them in quick succession) add no drama to the plot, since believers are by that point impervious to harm; neither the bullets from the Unity army or the supernatural lightning raining down from the sky can touch the Christian holdouts. It must have been difficult to imagine the words that Jesus would speak on such an occasion, but the authors’ cautious solution-to draw almost solely on the statements spoken by or about Jesus in the New Testament-feels wooden. However, the book is not devoid of humor, and fans of the series will enjoy the gentle, affectionate camaraderie that exists among the excited members of the ragtag brigade of believers. For readers who have stuck with this soap opera through thick and thin, there is a real emotional payoff in seeing the characters’ reunions with their loved ones who died during the Tribulation.

Book Description

Thousands of years of human history stained by strife, death, and sin come to an end when the King of Glory returns to earth. The satisfying conclusion of the seven years of tribulation covered by the Left Behind series portrays the return of Jesus Christ to earth in both glory and judgment at the height of the battle between the forces of evil gathered at Armageddon and the remaining Christian believers at Petra and Jerusalem. A repackage of the twelfth book in the New York Times best-selling Left Behind series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Glorious Appearing, Jun 5 2004
By
A Book Lover (Murrieta, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Glorious Appearing (Audio CD)
I'm not sure what book a few of those negative reviewers read (it certainly couldn't have been The Glorious Appearing).

This book was incredibly awesome. As a reader who has consumed all the Left Behind volumes, this book was a masterpiece, probably even the best book that I have ever read. The scripture is magnificently woven into a beautiful literary tapestry. All those obscure Old Testament prophets that you come across when studying the Bible has always given me a very hazy perspective on how it all fits together. But the way the authors so beautifully weave the Word of God throughout brings the End Times into focus, thus the flow of events end up being very plausible. This book was riveting, and touched my heart deeply, giving me a view of the risen, victorious, King of Kings and Lord of Lords in a way that I had never experienced. Is this book prophetic? It doesn't claim to be, but speaking as a student of the Bible, it very well could be.

1.0 out of 5 stars This isn't a Jesus I particularly want back, April 18 2004
By
I read the other books on "know your enemy" grounds (and they were enjoyably bad), but this is one of the worst GD things I've read, and I mean that literally. At some point in Ch. 2, the authors crossed the line where whoever did the Biblical translation they used can sue for plagiarism. I thought libertarian SF was bad w/ the "As you know...." speeches cluttering the dialog. Ugh. This is L&J getting revenge against everyone who ever doubted them, like a kid on a playground warning that his big brother will beat you up if he doesn't get his way. Example: with the unbelievers dead, the US finally and really becomes "a Christian nation."

Want a head rush? Alternate reading Juan Cole's reports about Iraq and L&J's account of the small band of believers fighting off the World Unity Army at Armageddon.

Wrap the result in an atmosphere of "OHMIGOD THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE TO SHOVE OUR BELIEFS DOWN THE THROATS OF OUR READERS!!!" desperation.

And the alternating descriptions of gutted nonbelievers and God's love and mercy are priceless, for you fans cognative dissonance.
