4.0 out of 5 stars Hammerfall's debut Album!! Jun 21 2004
By Nathan
Format:Audio CD
After quitting the death metal act, guitarist Oscar Dronjak formed HammerFall with other band members (Vocals) Joacim Cans (Guitarist) yours truly Oscar Dronjak (Bass) Fredrik Larsson (Guitars) Stefan Elmgren and last but not least (Drums) Patrik Rafling. They never thought that their first album "Glory to the Brave" would ever have such exposure and raving reviews in the nineties, but suprisingly was awarded "Album Of The Month" in both Rock Hard and Heavy Oder Was? This band plays the classic Heavy Metal like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Accept, or Black Sabbath, with hard rockin' songs like "The Metal Age" and the classic ballad that Hammerfall is known for, "I Believe," which I think is the best ballad they ever done. The lyrics deal with topics ranging from sword wielding warriors and the travelling of dimensions, to paying homage to Heavy Metal and the losing of beloved ones. They are designed to complement the music and at the same time tell a story; simply to entertain the listener. I believe that this is not only Hammerfall's best, but also their greatest album, and I suggest that you go out and get "Glory to the Brave."

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic by Hammerfall April 27 2004
Format:Audio CD
This is the first album by the legendary Hammerfall! What you get on this one is Power Metal of course. Their debut album is just great from the 1st track to the last one. I didn't notice any major flaws, of course everything can get better, but what you get on this one is awesome! I was just stunned the first time I heard the song "Hammerfall". What a great riff, choruses, well the whole song is simply a masterpiece. Check out "Metal Age", "Hammerfall", "I Believe", "Glory to the Brave", "Steel Meets Steel" and "Stone Cold".

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Powerful Metal Album Mar 7 2004
Format:Audio CD
Many people ctritcize this album for not having the same guitar wizardry as other power metal bands do, however Hammerfall does not need to have amazing guitars to write really solid and catchy metal tunes. Songs like "the dragon lies bleeding" and the somewhat overlong "glory to the brave" have everything needed to make a great song, including a good drum beat, satisfactory guitars, and a catchy chorus. What it comes down to, just because this band does not have the same guitar style as every other power metal band does not disqualify them as metal masters.
