About the Author

Shelley Case, RD, is a leading international nutrition expert on celiac disease and the gluten-free diet. She is a member of the Medical Advisory Boards of the Celiac Disease Foundation and Gluten Intolerance Group in the USA and the Professional Advisory Board of the Canadian Celiac Association. A popular speaker and educator, she is a frequent guest speaker on television and radio, including the NBC Today Show. She has written many articles in publications such as Gastroenterology, Pediatrics, Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Today's Dietitian and Allergic Living Magazine. In recognition for her dedication to educating health professionals and individuals with celiac disease in North America, Shelley received the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal.

Shelley Case is known throughout North America as the "celiac expert". A review of her revised and expanded Gluten-Free Diet book lists 3100 gluten-free specialty foods and a directory of over 270 American and Canadian Companies that support this community and creatively supply celiac patients with food that fits their diets. Meal plans, recipes and cooking hints are all part of the book and certainly helped me as I tried to understand what can and cannot be part of a celiac diet. Great resource book and one that you pick up frequently for clarity around food ingredients. I have learned more about the gluten-free diet from it than any other single resource. It is a must for the celiac resource library in any home or institution that educates around the disease.

Shelley Case knows GF. She lives GF. She is internationally known for her GF expertise and most of all she communicates with the people who are down in the trenches eating a GF diet to find out what is best and what they recommend. This has only increased the validity and popularity of her internatonal best seller Gluten-Free Deit: A Comprehensive Resource Guide. She coveres everything in her book - from getting onto the diet, some balanced recipes, where to shop in North America, grains and how they work in your body, how best to maintain a GF diet that is nutritional - I could go on. I have purchased every edition of her book - her current edition is 2008 and it is currently so under [...] in both Canadian and US dollars. She even has a fund raising component that if you buy a box of books you get a discount and can sell them to your chapter as a fund raising too. She is giving back to the community. You should try and hear her speak - despite talking at the rate of a train, she has a vast knowledge and will answer every personal question to the best of her ability. She is a true gem in the Celiac world.
