I was really looking forward to seeing this DVD because I'm a big fan and had seen them live many times back in the day. What a huge disappointment. This DVD was painful to watch because of the extremely bad recording quality. The performance itself was fantastic, what I could see of it on this grainy video with random wavy lines. This DVD I purchased from Beachesmusic is on a burnable disc with the artwork done on a inkjet printer. The video quality is what I would expect from a home TV recording using a really bad VCR. This disc appears to be a really really bad bootleg.
edit: Looks like this is the quality of the official DVD. These guys must have been doing the same drugs as me, no nobody managed to keep a decent copy of the original recording. I would have though City-TV would have kept a pristine copy in their archives. Anyway, this DVD has grown on me. I'm giving it 4 stars.

Private clubs and covert societies all have secret hand shakes, clandestine phrases and other means for members to identify themselves from none members. In the world of classic Canadian rock there is also a underground word. A word that distinguishes a true believer of great rock music from a fraud. And the word is GODDO.
This live concert DVD will give the novice an education on what it was like to 'rock it old school'. From the moment ANACANAPANACANA starts there is no doubt this isn't going to be a show that is done by head banging, ear bleeding hacks. The tight, seasoned three-piece band of Greg Godovitz, singer, guitarist and composer, Gino Scarpelli, master of the fundamentals of rock guitar-metallic and locomotive strumming, plus his slashing flourish of riffs and fills, and Doug Inglis's compact blend hard hitting rock drumming and perfect no crap controlled time keeping, fills the venue with a summation of all things great in Canadian rock.
GODDO brings their own sense of musical madness and a little gold suit fashion style to this capacity crowd. GODDO LIVE is not merely another concert DVD but one of the most significant events of 1979.

I was surprised to learn that the obscure band Goddo had an own DVD with a liveconcert. I have listened to their double-album "Live Best Seat in the House" many times and was pleased that this is recently available on CD too (with 4 extra tracks, they are great too, although it takes an other listen tot appreciate them), but that was the only thing I knew about this group. Suddenly I became beware that there is also this DVD. Well, I liked it from the beginning, having listened to the live CD a couple of times and although in other order and not with al the songs from that album, it adds certainly to a bigger appreciation. The band performed very well, being a powe trio, with instrumentchanges, the singer/bassplayer takes over on leadguitar whereas the leadguitarist plays bass (which they do in concert and in the studio). Furthermore some musicians turn up on saxes and in one song Grog Goddovitz plays a ballad behind the piano. All in all this is nice to watch. I can recommend it to anyone who likes an honest and true concert. At least the band had its fun and now the onlooker may share the same expierence. Very nice.
