Book Description

June 28 2005 Dover Fashion Coloring Book
Superbly rendered illustrations, adapted from Godey's Lady's Book, a rare nineteenth-century fashion magazine, provide authentic views of evolving Victorian modes of apparel — from lace-edged necklines and elongated bodices to fitted bonnets and extravagant bustles.
Thirty ready-to-color illustrations depict lavish dresses and gowns of velvet and damask; smart riding outfits trimmed with braid and gilt; an elegant cashmere shawl, children's outfits; as well as hair ornaments, footwear, and other accessories.
A lovely collection that offers an authentic glimpse of what well-dressed ladies and youngsters of the Victorian era were wearing, this is a must-have for coloring book fans, costume designers, and cultural historians.

5.0 out of 5 stars So lovely! Aug. 3 2009
I must confess that I'm a 26 years old child who loves to color lol!!!. I often do anxiety crises so for me, coloring in books is a way to calm me down. When I color, I forget everything around me...

Some weeks ago, I just started to do mandalas but after some pages, it was a bit repetitive and boring so I was looking on amazon for adult coloring books and finaly found those from Dover publications. They have a huge selection of coloring books for all tastes (fairies, flowers gardens, butterflies, victorian mansions and so much more) so I decided to order two of them (the one you can see on this page and the other one is Empire fashions from Tom Fierney).I chose them cause Victorian period is a fascination for me so I was so excited to receive those coloring books!!!

So, I just got my order today and Godey's Fashions coloring book is so lovely! All the pages are so detailed and well done. I can say with no hesitation that I've never ever seen a cutest coloring book before. In addition of it, each dress has his own comment and explanation so for those who like this period, it's very interesting.

Now, I just have a little problem : this book is so wonderful that I don't want to use it! I will probably print all the pages so I will be able to color it again and again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Color me happy! May 22 2008
By J. Arena - Published on Amazon.com
I've been over the moon with fashion paper dolls since I was a kid. Discovering Dover Pictorial Archives coloring books was like Christmas morning for me!

Godey's Fashions Coloring Book is a dream you can make come true with gel pens, crayons, colored pencils -- whatever suits your mood and interpretation of the project.

Frame it or cut it out and incorporate the image into another crafts project! There's lots of fun here!

5.0 out of 5 stars one of my favs! Dec 30 2008
By Megan - Published on Amazon.com

Ming-Ju Sun just can't be beat when it comes to fashion coloring books for adult enthusiasts, terrific artistic renderings with not too much and not too little detailing...everything is just right. What I love about Ming-Ju Sun's designs is nothing is inked in already, like it is with other artists designs (namely Tom Tierney).

I'm an adult coloring fanatic and this one is my fav regarding fashions of yesteryear. You won't find any backgrounds in these designs, it's all about the dresses, which is a nice change of pace.

This book is printed on quality white paper, great for pencils. The designs are printed back to back and marker will bleed through.

Relax with it and have fun! It's what they're all about :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Much too Pretty to Use June 9 2008
By T. Bickley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
What a lovely book! The range of dresses depicted spans several years, the images are beautifully drawn and highly detailed, and the descriptions that accompany the illustrations are quite informative. I actually purchased this thinking that I would color the images -- but the book is just much too pretty to use!
