Book Description

Oct. 25 2003
In a culture that exalts the caveman-like qualities of masculinity, most women have stopped expecting anything more. Young men are taught to view women as slaves to their self-centered desires. More than ever, men need to know that they can rise above this sad mediocrity. They desperately need someone to recognize their potential for blending courage and kindness, strength and spiritual sensitivity. With its riveting vision of Christ-centered manhood, God's Gift to Women shows young men how to become the heroic, selfless knight that every woman dreams about.

Buried Inside Every Young Man Is the Potential to Change the World

Deep within the rugged soul of every young man, there is a warrior in search of his sword and a poet in search of his pen. But heroic, prince-like masculinity is something most women only dream of in today’s perverse and self-serving world.

With contagious passion and boldness, Eric Ludy challenges you to forsake modern male mediocrity for Christ-built, warrior-poet manhood—manhood that will capture the heart of a woman and change the course of history.

5.0 out of 5 stars God's view of masculinity Jan. 14 2004
By Nate
Format:Paperback
Finally! Eric Ludy wrote a book that just for us guys. Not to say that girls can't get anything out of it, but now we young men have a book from the Ludys that solely addresses the things we face. I've read most of the Ludy's books (including some from so far back, you won't find them in stores anymore - ever heard of "His Perfect Faithfulness"?), and they've all been both entertaining and enlightening. This one is no exception.
Eric, throughout this book, talks frankly about the common traps that any guy can fall into in his relationships with God, family, and his wife. We learn how pride and selfishness, two sin patterns often tolerated in the name of "masculinity," actually have nothing to do with how God created men to be. God created us to be "warrior poets" - strong, persevering fighters in times of conflict and struggle, but also tender and servant-like in our relationships with the important women in our lives (not just our wives, but also sisters and mothers), and to some extent, with everyone around us. Thankfully, Eric gives some great application ideas for all this, so that we can begin to take action now, even before wedding day.
This book's only fault, in my opinion, is its predictability for those who have read Eric and Leslie's previous books, especially "Romance God's Way" and "When God Writes your Love Story." Put simply, the themes and messages of those books run through this one as well. To his credit, Eric uses new examples from his life and new application points, making this book worthwhile for any guy, regardless of how many Ludy books he's read. But only readers with no previous exposure to Ludy books will encounter entirely brand new principles for living as a Christian man.

I'm a 20-year-old girl, but as an avid reader of Eric and Leslie Ludy's other books, I wanted to see what Eric had to say in "God's Gift to Women." I just finished reading it, and all I can say is, "Amen! Preach it, Eric!" If guys would take to heart what Eric says in this book, the world would be filled with happy women! I recommend that every guy read this book, and find the secret to winning a woman's heart (it's not flowers and chocolate, but those do help! :)). Eric did forget to mention one of the most key elements of being a warrior poet: opening the door for ladies, especially your mom and sister! Otherwise, he covered all the bases. So whether you haven't a clue at how to be tender to a woman, or you think you have it all figured out, you guys need to read this book. It will point you towards the path of becoming God's Gift to Women.
P.S. Girls, if you want to read this book, go right ahead! It's obviously geared towards guys, but I got a lot out of it as well. It helped me understand our "wild at heart" men a bit better, and gave me a vision of the kind of man I'm waiting for: a tender warrior poet.

Bottom line: If you're a young man interested in cutting through the world's view of masculinity to see how God views it, you should read this book. It will help you grow toward a masculinity that isn't self-serving and rude but is strong and thoughtful - the masculinity that is "God's Gift to Women."

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing.... Dec 29 2004
By Dorian G - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I first saw Eric Ludy ata retreat with my small (40 students) high school in northwest Colorado. His enthusiasm for life, God, and love greatly inspired me. Years later I attended Summit Ministries in Colorado Springs and He and his wife Leslie talked for 2 or 3 days to us about relationships with eachother, and most importantly with God. I had lunch with him a few times and He is just an amazing guy with a heart for God, I saw God shining through him in his words and his actions. He told us of his new book God's Gift To Women which would be released in a month or 2. My parents bought me the book for my nineteenth birthday and I dove right into it...but wasn't committed enough to go more then a few chapters into it...a huge mistake. 8 months later on Christmas break after a rough semester at college I started over intent on finishing it. I was suprised to find the book is not primarily concerned with how we men relate to the women in our lives but rather it focuses on the building of the Christ built man. God's Gift to Women challenges young men to live with one purpose in life, serving their King and Savior with all their heart mind and strength. It also challenges us to stay pure in our hearts and mind, saving ourselves for our future spouse both physically emotionally and spiritually. God changed my life through this book and I think anyone even women should read this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good effort falls short... July 27 2008
By West Side Wonder - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A guys' group I am in decided to read and discuss this book. One thing I have to say is that it did inspire some great discussions, but other than that, there isn't a lot of "meat" or substance to this book. It is very melodramatic at times and just plain cheesy most of the time. The few good points aren't that deep and are made in many other similar books.

The main issue our group pretty much agreed on was that it seemed Eric Ludy took his own, very specific, experiences and painted across all of "Christian manhood" with a very broad brush. He goes into the book assuming that all guys went through the same experiences he did.

Also, we felt another issue was that the book was not heavily based on the bible. Mr. Ludy has a scripture reference or two at the end of each chapter, but most of the book really seems to be based on him reading the book about William Wallace. It seemed like that changed his life more than his relationship with Jesus Christ.

Anyway, not necessarily a bad read if you can borrow the book somewhere, just don't expect some deep, thought-provoking, life-changing experience...at least in our group's opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book I've ever read! May 10 2006
By Ofelia De Jesus Bacaro - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I bought this book for my son. I read it in one day. I mailed it to the young man who is courting my daughter, instead of to my son. I went on Amazon and bought another one to give to my son. I would recommend this book to any young man seeking to lead a Christ-centered life. It truly IS the best book I've ever read. I am looking forward to reading Authentic Beauty and passing it on to my girls.
