glenn gould's two studio goldberg variantions recording (55 and 81) supplemnet each other and should belong to every collection of this work, this particular version is deeply penetrative... gould always plays bach intensely and it pays off here: undisputable rhythms and unabiguous phrases, there are more than one way to play any composer, this certainly is one of them, so there is no reason to critize gould on his individualily on something which he plays best.
Never have I heard a more excellent piece of music played flawlessly and wonderfully by one of the great masters of the piano, Glenn Gould. I shall always treasure this album. Frederica Flynn
