While it might seem like something out of another dimension given the world we're living in now, this prime-time show that aired from 1985 to 1992 about the hilarious exploits of four single women of a certain age living out their semi-retirement in Miami still stands up. The plots are mostly predictable, and the set never changes, but this ensemble cast really comes into its own in the third season--one that earned them three Emmys and a Golden Globe. Blanche is just as man-crazy as ever, Sophia works her brutal honesty and "picture Sicily stories" to perfection, Dorothy remains the eternal stalwart straight man without compare, and Rose's dull-witted reveries always make for a great gag. Standout episodes in this season include "A Letter to Gorbachev," where Rose pens a letter urging Gorbachev to end the Cold War with the West; in a terrific dream sequence, she imagines herself addressing a huge crowd in Red Square against a backdrop featuring the faces of Marx, Lenin, and of course, herself. "The Housekeeper" tackles stereotypes as the girls hire a Caribbean woman as their new housekeeper and suspect she's put a curse on them. "Grab That Dough" sees the girls on a fictional game show where they allow greed and ambition to come between their friendships and predictably, no one wins. "Three on a Couch" is one of those convenient midseason flashback episodes, the premise being that the girls are so sick of each other that they try to get professional help to solve their problems; the therapist's frank advice is that they get as far away from each other as possible. Although the season is on the whole is a perfect collection of sharp one-liners, there is depth to this show that isn't afraid to discuss Alzheimer's disease in "Old Friends," or the crushing financial complications of being old and single in "The Audit." Extras include "Golden Moments," a great montage of the funniest lines in the season and "The Golden Girls Scrapbook" that comprises each girl's best lines. These two extras could be enough to satisfy any Golden Girls fan, who perhaps doesn't have the time to indulge in all 25 episodes. --Gabi Knight

This review is from: Golden Girls Comp Third Season (DVD)
Hello fellow GG fans!!! I bought this with a gift card I got for Christmas to keep my seasons up to date. I have seasons 1&2 and 3 was just as delightful, if not more(there are better bonus features than in the first two seasons)and classic episodes. Since I always like what episodes I'm getting to look forward too here's a list with brief description:

1.Old Friends: Sophia befriends a man on the boardwalk who has alzheimers. Blanche accidentally gives away Rose's treasured teddy bear.
2.One for the money: the girls remember times they've tried to make a quick buck. has the classic dance marathon sequence.
3.Bringing Up Baby:Rose inherits her uncles' prized pig who gets homesick but comes with $100,000.
4.The Housekeeper:the girls get a housekeeper and things start going badly when they fire her.
5.Nothing left to fear but fear itself: the girls try to get over their fears: Dorothy(flying), Rose(public speaking), Blanche(a dream of bald men in an inclosed space).
6.Letter to Gorbachev: Rose writes a letter to president Regan and Gorbachev. Gorbachev wants to meet her thinking she's 9 years old.
7.Strange Bedfellows: I can't remember
8.Brotherly Love: I can't remember

Disc 2:
1.A visit from little Sven: Rose's cousin visits to prepare for an arranged marriage but falls for Blanche.
2.The Audit: Stand and Dorothy are audited
3. Three on a Couch: The girls go to a therapist because they are sick of each other.
4.Charlie's Buddy: Rose gets a visit from a man who was friends with Charlie in the war. The rest suspect somethings off
5.The Artist: A classic. Lasslo is a famous sculpter who sees Rose, Dorothy and Blanche behind each other's backs to make a sculpture. The girls fight over who he will pick
6.Blanche's little girl: Blanche's model daughter visits, now a bigger woman.
7.Dorothy's new friend: Dorothy has a new friend who turns her nose down to Rose and Blanche
8.Grab that Dough. Another classic. The girls go on a game show with Rose and Sophia against Dorothy and Blanche.
9.My Brother, my Father: Sophia's brother visits(a priest)and convinces Dorothy and Stan to pretend they're still married.

Disc 3:
1.Golden Moments 1&2: When Sophia announces she's going to live with her son Phil, the girls wonder what to do without her and remember good times
2.And ma makes Three: Sophia feels lonely so Dorothy invites her out with her date...only Sophia doesn't stop going out with them
3.Larceny and old Lace: the girls suspect Sophia's new beau is a bank robber
4.Rose' big Adventure:Rose gets asked to cruise around the world with her newly retired beau and says yes
5.Mixed Blessings: Dorothy is stunned to find out her son is getting married to a much older woman. Conversely, the bride's mother is surprised that her daughter is marrying a skinny white boy
6.Mister Terrific: Dorothy unknowingly gets Rose's boyfriend, Mr Terrific(a children's show host)fired.
