Notable guests to lend their talents to the first season include Star Trek: Voyager's Robert Picardo ("The Operation"), Alice's Polly Holliday ("Blind Ambitions"), and WKRP in Cincinnati's Gordon Jump ("Big Daddy"). In addition, Harold Gould (Rhoda), who appears in "Rose the Prude," would return as a (different) recurring character five years later.
The Golden Girls ran for seven seasons and spawned spin-off The Golden Palace (without Arthur) and a British version called The Brighton Belles. By the end of its run in 1992, it had garnered numerous awards, including two Emmys for best comedy series. In addition, each of the four actresses received a well-deserved Emmy for her efforts. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Fashion Commentary - Joan and Melissa Rivers provide their own unique brand of fashion critique in a hilarious featurette that pays tribute to the crazy, kitschy wardrobes of The Golden Girls.

At last....Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia on DVD!!,
By Andy (Toronto) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Golden Girls, the:S1 (DVD)
It has been a long time coming but finally the Golden Girls are on DVD. The picture quality is great and the episodes are not clipped as they always are in reruns. The extra fashion show by Joan and Melissa Rivers is bloody awful--do not even bother watching it--I am serious--it is an embarrassment--you can tell Joan is not even into it.One little problem I have is that many of the photo are not even from season 1--including the front and back cover. Hopefully there are more extras on future seasons--there is a flyer included that says Season 2 comes out in the spring of 2005!

A true godsend,
By Saburo (Tsu, Japan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Golden Girls, the:S1 (DVD)
I started watching the Golden Girls from about season 3 or 4 and was hooked right from the start. Youcan therefore understand how much I am valuing this initial release. I don't tire of any of the episodes. I have watched each episode a couple of times but each time I react like it is the first time I am watching it. The sound is not the greatest but it is ok. I intend to buy every single season that is released on dvd. Before the dvds, I had recorded some episodes on tape which I guarded jealously and so for me, the dvd is a true godsend. I'm sure every true fun of the show will be happy with the dvd.

It's about time: Golden Girls released on DVD,
By A Customer
This review is from: Golden Girls, the:S1 (DVD)
If you are a Golden Girls fan, you will love this DVD set. The only part that is quite terrible is the Joan and Melissa Rivers fashion commentary. It was quite offending to the Golden Girls fans because those two hideous woman (Joan and Melissa) put down the show quite a bit. I wish that was not part of the DVD set. What is exciting is that the second season will be released in Spring 2005. I can't waite!
