Good Translation June 13 2007
By Gentle Reader - Published on Amazon.com

I first owned this easy-to-read translation years ago, but it got lost many moves ago. This is not a paraphrase, incidentally. I find this translation very helpful for difficult passages and am glad to add it to my collection of study and other Bible translations.

Amazon's description is inanaccurate, however. If you need the Deuterocanonicals/Apocrypha, this version in burgundy does not contain it. There are two versions sold by Amazon -- one with a blue cover and one with a burgundy cover. Both are marked as containing the Apocrypha. I bought the one that cost a little more assuming that it did contain the apocrypha, but it did not. I don't know if the blue cover version does contain them, but since it is less expensive I doubt it. I brought the mislabeling to Amazon's attention so I hope they correct the problem.

With or without the Apocrypha, I highly recommend this as an addition to anyone's Bible library.

Easy to Read the Whole Bible!!!!!! Aug. 17 2009

In my lifetime, I have never been able to read the whole bible without struggling to understand it. I would read it for a while, then give up, or get tired and fall asleep. Well, this one is very easy to read! Like a story. This is my essential work-study Bible. I also have other versions of the Bible to refer to in addition to this one. Now I can also understand, study and compare other translations of the Bible, but this one is the one that I always fall back on, because of it's ease of reading. I also like the fact that it has the Deuterocanonicals/Apocrypha. These are essential books of Wisdom, especially the book of Sirach. They are similar to the wisdom of King Solomon, and give great advice to everyday questions in life.
A Great Bible for a young teen too!!! A great gift, everyone should have one! It also comes in large print and a children's version. Check out the Gospel of John on DVD, it's VERBATIM the Good News Translation! (My Godson who was only ten understood it and watched it all the way through!!!) I absolutely Love it!!! Both of these items are a must have! The Gospel of John God Bless You on Your Spiritual Journey, this will open the doors!!!

Good for beginners Nov. 5 2006
By Victor Villanueva - Published on Amazon.com
This is a good beginners bible, for those that are second language or young. It's hard to understand the old English versions, specially since almost no one speaks like that anymore in the United States. This has words that are used in today's language and their easy to understand. For Sunday Church School, I think this bible would be great for the younger ones as they would be able to understand the words a lot better.

I bought this bible because I all ready own an old English version one, and me been second language I found it hard to understand. Then I found this bible and began to read it and understood nearly everything. Although I knew it was not as accurate as the original Old English Version, I was able to read through it with out having to use a dictionary or give it too much though of what they meat, loosing my interest in further reading the bible. Now I actually enjoy reading the bible more than ever and mostly because it's easy to read.

I recommend this bible to those that are beginning or just want a clearer wording to talk it over with other people. I also highly recommend it for second language readers.

Spoke to me in Proverbs 12:2, only in this translation. April 1 2011

I saw Proverbs 12:2 in this translation somewhere maybe on facebook which really hit me between the eyes. "A fool does not care whether he understands a thing or not;all he wants to do is show how smart he is." GNT. Other translations do not express it quite that way. I have GNT's from way back in the '70's, but I decided to buy this one because it also includes the Apocrypha. Never saw that in this translation before. It is a handy Bible to pick up and get hit between the eyes with a good truth now and then. The drawings are expressive of the subject matter too.
