4.0 out of 5 stars Gives Hope, Understanding and Peace.... Jan. 10 2002
Format:Paperback
After losing my beloved cat "Red" to cancer, I began searching for something about the death of animals and where they may go. It was a hard search...something people do not talk about these days. I found Goodbye Friend and it helped relieve the sorrow and pain of losing Red. It also helps to understand that what you are going through is normal. Also that you are not crazy because you grieve for your "family member" (e.i. pet) like a human. It helps to understand that everyone has their own process to get through their own loss. The poems and little stories were nice to reflect upon. This book barely touches on animal afterlife...but is a very good book with good information, reflective thoughts and validates your emotions and what you are experiencing. Another good book which has short stories of afterlife happenings of pets is "The Soul of Your Pet". ---- Bless all who have loved and lost a special animal companion for your lives are the richer!

5.0 out of 5 stars To ease the pain June 20 2003
Format:Paperback
I was looking for a book that would help me through the grieving process when I lost my dog to an unexpected illness. I got more than I bargained for. This book gave an open-minded multi-religious approach toward the treatment animals after death. This book also led me through the creation of a poem. I wrote a poem for my beautiful brown-eyed puppy girl Jaqi (pronounced "Jackie"). I highly recommend this author and this book.

When I lost my pet, I was looking for something to read to help me grieve. GOODBYE, FRIEND was the answer for me. Reading this book not only helped ease the pain, it also helped me to understand what "I" believe in when it comes to "my" religious beliefs on animals. I not only learned about other religions, I learned how to right a poem! And yes, I wrote a poem in memory of my beautiful brown-eyed puppy girl Jaqi (pronounced Jackie). I hightly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sorrowful Joy May 14 2003
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I would recommend this book for anyone who has suffered the loss of a companion animal. The book is full of sorrow, but joy as well. I was crying as I was reading, yet I could not stop reading. Just keep the kleenex nearby. A great gift for anyone in the midst of grief from the loss of a pet.

Format:Paperback
It was very helpful and comforting to read this very rationally presented, validating book, after the loss of my best friend Kasha - a striped tabby who bossed me around for 16 years. I especially liked the lovely assortment of poems. Many thanks to the author for a very thoughtful, supportive book. I also feel that I gained some tools from this book for helping others go through the loss of a beloved animal.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for any pet lover. June 19 2002
Format:Paperback
I would recommend any one who has a pet read this book. It helps not only with the healing process but would be good to read before the actual death. The pictures are beautiful The last section with readings and an example of how one family helped their dog helped me see that we could be of benefit to our beloved Jenny at the time. Thanks for the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely comforting March 11 2002
Format:Paperback
After 2 painful weeks as our beloved 18 year old cat declined rapidly, we made the decision to end his suffering this morning. This book not only helped us make that difficult decision, but provided comfort and strength to us thoughout the ordeal. Perhaps most important is the author's validation of our feelings and acknowledgement that our animals are very important parts of our lives. I'd recommend this book to anyone, and I am on line now to buy two more copies as gifts- one for the wonderful vet who came to our home this morning and helped our friend to a gentle, peaceful passing.

5.0 out of 5 stars HEALING WORDS AND HOPE IN MY TIME OF SORROW Dec 28 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I was desperately searching for some comfort after the loss of my beloved dog, when my daughter found this book for me. This book was such help and comfort and made me feel better after reading it. Of course, I cried a lot during my reading of the book but it is very healing. I was very impressed that the author knows the heartache that many people experience in losing their pet that he took a six-month sabbatical leave to write this book in order to help people deal with their loss. I am truly grateful to him for doing this.
Please read this book if you are suffering from the loss of your pet. This book can help bring you comfort.
