Kate soon uncovers Kitty's second life, centered on Kitty's search for her real father, entailing an investigation of several powerful men. Things are further complicated by the reappearance of Evan McKenna, Kate's unrequited love interest of the past seven years, who is a charming part-time private investigator, the exact opposite of Ben. Linked to the case through work he'd done for Kitty, Evan joins Kate on the mystery, and his seductive presence leaves her torn. While Weiner's characters are passionate, affecting and poignant, the murder mystery is less compelling. Too many false conclusions leave the reader tired by the time the real killer is revealed. The ending is also hard to believe. But Weiner's readers will root for Kate, whose humor and warmth amidst her struggles to transcend the roles of mom and wife make her a loveable, fully realized character.

This was probably my least favorite of Jennifer Weiner's novels...not to say that it isn't worth reading. I found it to be interesting and kept me hooked but my overall enjoyment of it wasn't that great. I didn't walk away from it and say "wow that was a great book!" like I did for her other novels. I can't really pinpoint what it was...perhaps the whole murder-mystery theme seemed out of place....Anyways, it's worth a shot but don't expect to be amazed...

I just finished reading "Goodnight Nobody." While I connected with our heroine, I thought there were too many characters/suspects to keep track of--I felt an excel spreadsheet of who's who might have been helpful. Not what I was looking for in a chick-lit read. And the ending--total letdown! While I won't completely spoil it, the best part of the story was Kate's turmoil between Ben and Evan. Would she stay with the husband she liked, or follow her heart?So while I enjoyed the comedic parts, identified to a degree with Kate and her BFF, was completely ticked off with the ending and feel cheated.

Mildly engaging, sometimes funny. I could take it or leave it. I enjoyed In her Shoes and Good in Bed as light reading chick-lit with good stories, real life drama and witty characters, so this one was a bit of a let down. I found the main character a bit annoying and the whole storyline void of truly likable or relatable characters.
