1.0 out of 5 stars JUMP OFF GRAFFITI BRIDGE Oct. 3 2003
Format:VHS Tape
AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WILL DO IF I HAVE TO BEAR WITNESS TO THIS MOVIE JUST ONE MORE TIME!!! PRINCE SHOULD HAVE FIRED EVERYONE WITHIN A TEN MILE RADIUS, IF THEY HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS MOVIE!!! SOMETIMES, WE HAVE TO STICK WITH WHAT WE KNOW, AND IF YOU CANT DELIVER SOMETHING TO MEET THE EXPECTATIONS OF YOUR FANS, THEN WAIT UNTIL YOU CAN! PRINCE IS REPORTEDLY A PERFECTIONIST. WOULD'VE LIKED TO HAVE SEEN SOME OF THAT IN THIS MOVIE..I WONDER IF HE WATCHED IT? BECAUSE QUITE FRANKLY, EVEN HE SHOULD'VE HATED IT..SOMEONE TOLD PRINCE A HUGE UNTRUTH, IF THEY TOLD HIM THIS WOULD WORK..SOMETIMES, WHEN YOU ARE A FAMOUS CELEBRITY, YOU OBVIOUSLY FEEL ANYTHING YOU TOUCH TURNS TO GOLD..LOOK OUT..THOUGH, THIS MOVIE WILL TURN YOUR FINGER GREEN. DEFINATELY NOT WORTHY OF PRINCE'S TOTAL CAPABILITY. SHOULD YOU BUY IT? ONLY IF YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE FANS THAT ARE SO FANATIC THAT YOU ARE BLINDED BY THE TRUTH..FOR THE REST OF YOU..KEEP YOUR MONEY..BUY PURPLE RAIN..IT IS A CLASSIC. GRAFFITI BRIDGE? WELL,..GET THE SOUNDTRACK, AS ALL OF PRINCE'S MUSIC IS QUITE GOOD...BUT UNFORTUNATELY, IT DOESNT HELP THIS MOVIE OUT.

2.0 out of 5 stars "A foolish Musical Play at best !" Feb. 6 2003
By Arish
Format:VHS Tape
This movie is O.K but I think I would have done it a different way ! First of all I would have scraped the script ad just started all over! Then I would have called some real excutives and producers in to help out ! I love Prince as much as anyone on this page but this movie is complete foolishness and a fiasco! This movie looks like it was filmed on a stage and the set is completley polished! The acting is horrible and the plot is silly! This movie is O.K if you want to be interupted by music every ten minutes! It is nothing more than a musical, if you want to watch a music video by Prince I suggest "Sign of the Times" ! This is a waste of time unless you just want to really laugh! I got it just to see it all the way through because I kept missing the beginning on T.V! "Under the Cherry Moon" Will be the most artistic and classic movie out of his collection. "Under the Cherry Moon" was quirky but in a more artistic and interesting way! This had to be an independent effort because I can't see the same people responsible for "Purple Rain" letting this seep out!

4.0 out of 5 stars An "outsider art" masterpiece, sort of Oct. 27 2002
Format:VHS Tape
By any normal standard, "Graffiti Bridge" is an abysmally poor excuse for filmed entertainment - dramatically inert, amateurishly performed, written on the level of a junior high school play: you name it. Even its producer, who had a financial incentive to lie, called it "one of the worst movies ever made".
But, like most Prince fans, I'm not exactly normal, and, out of affection for the Skinny MF, I've managed to convince myself that its cinematic incompetence is no more of a bar to the conveyance of its meaning than are the crude colors and flattened perspective of folk art.
I'll go so far as to claim that "Graffiti Bridge" is an endearingly clumsy spiritual autobiography of sorts. Imagine St. Augustine's "The City of God" as written by an unschooled medieval peasant - albeit one with an incredible sense of rhythm. (Unh!) In that light, Morris Day as the unprincipled club owner can be seen not as the Snidely Whiplash-caliber bogeyman he might otherwise seem, but as a Bunyon-esque symbol of Worldly Temptation.
OK, it will help if you're stoned while you watch it. But the music really is terrifically good. (The climactic "Still Would Stand All Time" is a masterpiece of gospel - sung with heartbreaking conviction.) In the booty department: Jill Jones, the lovestruck waitress from "Purple Rain", takes off her panties in the middle of the street for some reason and, elsewhere, there is one thong on display. And Morris, though not given nearly as good material to work with here as he had in PR, still manages to be a comedic nonpareil. ("Let me perform for you my latest masterpiece - 'The Love Machine'.")

2.0 out of 5 stars Non-Prince fans need not apply Aug. 30 2001
Format:VHS Tape
This is almost not a movie. What I mean is, it plays like a bunch of music videos with tidbits of plot thrown in between.
If you're reading this, I take it you have an interest in Prince... or at least Morris Day and the Time. The soundtrack CD is really great, and if you really spend enough time listening to it, it kind of paints it's own picture in your mind. I don't know if that sounds crazy, but I bought the CD when it came out-- a couple months before the release of the movie. The music is so detailed and vivid, I imagined what the movie would be like. Ultimately I was dissapointed with how it actually turned out...
"Purple Rain" towers above this movie, and I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that it (purple rain) had a screenwriter and director separate from Prince. With "Graffiti Bridge", Prince bit off more than he could chew by writing/directing/starring. I think there were some good ideas here that definitely needed some shaping.
Morris Day is the scene-stealer, as he was in "Purple Rain", though again I'm not so sure Prince wrote him as strong a part as he deserved. This movie is a semi-sequel to "Purple Rain"-- which was a bad idea. "Purple Rain" had a realistic feel to it. "Graffiti Bridge" has a slightly surreal feel. Plus, unlike "Purple Rain", it was shot almost entirely on soundstages-- resulting in a very set-bound, manufactured atmosphere.
In closing, if you're a Prince fan check it out.

In spite of all the bad talk I had heard about this movie, I personally thought it was good and the soundtrack was also good.
