5.0 out of 5 stars Most accessible Hebrew Reference Grammar, Oct 12 2010

I purchased this book because I was frustrated with the difficulty in using Gesenius' reference grammar. Having taken 14 university classes in biblical Hebrew, and having used Gesenius in some of the upper level classes, I wanted a reference grammar that provided me with English I could more readily understand; Joüon and Muraoka's grammar does just that. The English is clear and straight forward. I still use Gesenius, but the clarity of Joüon's grammar makes it my most useful Hebrew grammar. This book is for the advanced student, who is looking for a descriptive grammar, a grammar that describes why rules are the way that they are prescribed in beginning grammars. The binding is great, and the font type is superb. highly recommended.

This is an excellent treatise of Biblical Hebrew. It has been a long time since I studied grammar. The terms are technical but the internet becomes a useful tool for their definitions. The authors have written one of the best explanations of Biblical . The Tanakh or Old Testament is written in a different style than Modern Hebrew. Jouon and Muraoka explain the grammar and the syntax of the Hebrew used to write the Bible. This book is for the serious student of the Bible. The serious student will find it is just what they need.

I bought this for a friend, and he was very happy to find that it was the 2009 with corrections. He was suspect, in that it didn't seem to be as beefy as a previous version, but I have heard no complaints.
