Gran Turismo 5 game logo
The Real Driving Simulator is Here
True to its pedigree, Gran Turismo 5 takes the GT series, as well as the simulation racing genre as a whole, to a whole new level. The game features over 1,000 realistically rendered cars. This is nearly 300 more than were included in GT4 for PlayStation 2, and literally several hundred more than what was available in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, the first GT game variation developed for PS3. This tremendous list includes standard categories of vehicles, including stock cars, tuned pre tuned vehicles and tunables, but keeping with modern automotive technology GT5 also includes the latest, hybrid and electric car models. Just like any car, these can be raced, but as with their real-life cousins, players can also do things with these cars like monitor battery power as related to speed and other car usage. In addition, GT 5 features over 20 courses, more than 60 variations, a new physics engine allowing for realistic damage, a new in-cockpit view, HD support, and much more.

I first really got into the GT series with the release of GT4. Picked up while working in JApan and fell in love with it. GT5 is a solid entry and I find it interesting that they've sort of pared back some of the features from GT4. Yes, you can tweak and tune your car like crazy, but they've also made this more accessible for those just getting into GT. Love the selection of cars and tracks. The visuals are stunning. The soundtrack is so-so. The only downsides for me, are that more cars aren't of the premium level and NASCAR bores me to death. All in all, love that I'm getting that driving itch I had 6 years ago in Japan!

This is the fourth GT game I've tried, spent many hours with GT4, GT5 Prologue and the GT PSP so this game was already pre-sold. It is best enjoyed by anyone who can appreciate a sub 8 minutes clean lap at the Nurburgring and knows the difference between springs and dampers. After a month or so with the game here are the comments. Graphics - looks great on a large 16:9 screen. A lot of "photo" options to take screen shots of your car in action or in highly detailed artistic situations. Interesting but not a huge sales feature. Game play - GT series is the best at providing a simulated feel. Most of the cars have a realistic mass and inertia, other driving games seem to have a floaty aspect to the car. The only thing missing is the seat of the pants feel of the acclerations. There's 1000 cars but many are lame underpowered Japanese domestic market models, I guess there's a PS3 demand for that but for North Americans and Europeans? meh. Also too many Nissan GT-R variants, nice car but enough already. Racing is actually pretty easy against the AI, very easy with a few tune-up mods. GT Prologue was much more unforgiving and difficult, they have eased up with GT5. Annoying feature is for example, you need to buy a Ferrari to win a Ferrari-only race and the prize is another Ferrari. There are many specific model races like this. License tests are progressively difficult and don't allow much room for error. There are Special Events and Seasonal Events with good racing and prize money, you do need to buy certain cars and there are limits to horsepower and tires, some are unrestricted so you do have to go to the tuning shop and load up. Try winning a race in 5 laps starting from 12th place.Read more ›

GT5 is the best racing sim on any console. Every car is accurately modeled to spec. If you wanted to test drive a ferrari here is your chance. There are over 1000 cars to unlock. Very impressive. If you are in to arcade style racing you should think twice about getting this game though.

This game has finally launched , the effects are spectacular the number of cars is amazing the tracks are fun you can have your own music in the game and the only is solid...but after all this time , there could have been more.

A couple bugs are noticed , glitch in graphics are certain parts , if you take a close look to the edge of the roads , the shaders and the people watching , this looks like PS2 level.

Also , the damage is very badly represented in this game. Only 200 cars have the interior camera (premium cars) and the loading is very long even if you install the game (which takes ALLOT of HDD space).

Overall a great product and I'd give it a 8 out of 10 , but for a game we waited so long for , it should have been better then this.

I purchased this game on release date and still have not been able to put it down. It is filled with so much content that it's going to take months to get through it all. Driving is fantastic, especially if you have a wheel. The only bad thing I can say is that if your like me and currently have exams, don't get this game because you won't be able to put it down.
