The movie is a 1970s take on 1950s musicals, providing all the kitsch anyone could hope for. It's John Travolta as Danny Zuko as Olivia Newton-John's pompadoured main squeeze, and the kids go crazy. Fresh from his astronomical success with Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, Bee Gee Barry Gibb penned the title track (sung by Frankie Valli). Sha Na Na is over-represented, and actress Stockard Channing struts her, um, versatility, singing a couple of tracks. This has become a touchstone in American culture, and so isn't likely to improve its standing in the world's eyes. Maybe the point is that it's supposed to sound amateurish, but it does manage to eke out some fun, most notably on the hit "You're the One That I Want". --Scott Wilson

L'album idéal des boums à thème. Celui-ci sera plutôt sixties, naturellement, avec un clin d'oeil d'humour par dessus le marché. La bande originale de Grease a la même saveur acidulée et souriante que les images. Les interprètes principaux du film (John Travolta et Olivia Newton John, faut-il le rappeler) côtoient une petite brochette d'artistes plus connus comme stricts musiciens, tels Frankie Avalon ou les pétillants Sha-Na-Na. Ces derniers se réservent d'ailleurs une jolie part de ce gros gâteau sucré qu'est le soundtrack. Et ils entreprennent avec une maîtrise fraîche et spontanée des classiques comme "Blue Moon" ou "Hound Dog". Et puis l'album contient les titres inusables que sont devenus "You're The One That I Want", qui joua bien son rôle de vrai-faux tube 60's, ou "Summer Nights", toujours chantés par notre duo favori. Le thème lui-même de "Grease", signé Barry Gibb des Bee Gees (également responsables de Saturday Night Fever) est imprimé durablement dans les mémoires, avec la légèreté et l'insouciance d'une époque où une fête pouvait en cacher une autre. Du bonheur simple en vignettes sans prétention. Mais tellement efficaces. --José Ruiz

Absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!I love every single song on the CD and I've watched the film so many times I've lost track. Let's jus say enough times to know the words off by heart even when I'm only 17.

I'm 13 years old and I had never seen Grease, but when my mom told me I had to see I gave it a try, and now Grease is my absolute favorite movie!!! After I saw the movie I had to have the soundtrack!!! These are the best songs I have heard in a long time!! Its even better than the Eminem, 50 Cent, and Nelly stuff thats out today. If you want good music I suggest you buy the Grease soundtrack. Its all about having a good time! Grease 4ever baby!!!!~*Mercury*~

Okay, I admit when I was a teenager I liked the music on this CD and I still do I guess. What's really interesting is that John Travolta and Stockard Channing actually sing their own music on the album. There are some cheesy songs here, but overall it's pretty cool. If you like the movie and the music, this is a good buy.
