Product Description

Description

Into Great Silence is the first film ever made chronicling life inside the Grande Chartreuse, nestled deep in the stunning French Alps. Founded in 1084, it is considered one of the world’s most ascetic monasteries and home to the Catholic Church’s strictest order. Here the monks dedicate themselves entirely to the service of God and to spiritual life, in permanent silence. One of the most mesmerizing and poetic chronicles of spirituality ever created, this film is a rare, transformative experience for all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply wonderful, April 22 2011
By

This review is from: Great Silence - Special Edition (DVD)
This movie is about the life of a group of monks, who dedicated their lives to prayer and work. It will appeal to those who already have faith and those who are searching.Beautiful silent cinematography interspersed with gregorian chant invites us into the spiritual domain of human life.It was a welcome break from the noise of everyday life. If you like it, I would recommend another movie: " of Gods and Men" that recently won a top prize in Cannes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Oct 8 2011

This review is from: Great Silence - Special Edition (DVD)
This film gives a beautiful picture of the reality of life in this monastery. Highly recommended to anyone who simply admires and wants to have better understanding of monastic life. There is a wonderful interview of an old and blind monk. He shows he is not cut off from the rest of the world but has very good understanding of it. Essentially he says that if the modern world is so interested in eliminating god from life then there remains the question: without god then what is the reason for living life at all?
