This book is a commentary to the meditation practice called "offering to the Spiritual Guide", which is one of the most important practices for any follower of Je Tsongkhapa.

It's actually an astounding presentation of the whole path to enlightenment of sutra and tantra. Every realization necessary to attain enlightenment is explained here, as a large part of Offering to the Spiritual Guide is a verse by verse meditation on the whole path!

If you want a good overview of the whole path to enlightenment, as well as a detailed practice manual for Offering to the Spiritual Guide, look no further. This book has it all. Even though the subject matter is quite profound, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso writes beautifully and with extraordinary clarity, but I would not recommend this book for beginners. They are likely to find Transform Your Life by the same author more helpful.

One of the essential components of Buddhist practice, that actually `makes it work' is given in this book. This practice of `Reliance upon the Spiritual Guide' is an aspect of Buddhist practice that is often overlooked by Westerners seeking to improve their spiritual lives with the teachings of Buddha. Most Buddhist practices are available for people to study and learn about. But the emphasis on the power of one's faith and receiving blessings is usually lacking.
