**1981 Anthem Entertainment release out of Canada**
Faced with 2 minutes to fill with Canadian content, the classic sketch comedy show SCTV drilled deeply into the true nature of the culture with Bob (Rick Moranis) and Doug (Dave Thomas) McKenzie's instructional program The Great White North. Its success led to this 1982 spin-off disc, which even went gold in the States and still yields its share of laughs today. Classic moments include the pair being bullied by the studio chorus on "The Twelve Days of Christmas" (Doug: "This should just be the two days of Christmas, it's too hard for us!"), meeting a toque-clad Geddy Lee (the hit single "Take Off"), pondering "Where do they get that black stuff that makes the album?" ("From old albums . . . they erase it, right?"), and sharing bits of telling personal history ("Coffee Sandwich," "Ernie's Mom"). They're good, eh? --Rickey Wright
