4.0 out of 5 stars This is a condensed overview of Chers' career Sept. 8 1998
Format:Audio CD
This European release of Chers' Greatest Hits is fairly good, but the range is so diverse that it seems that 2 discs were in order. The singing is good and the productions varied. Two unreleased songs from the studio and an additional concert piece, "Many Rivers to Cross",try to bring things up to date. The best tracks are hard to pinpoint as they are all generally good. My fave is "Save Up All Your Tears". Too bad the origional Sonny Bono "Bang Bang", and her 1st Imperial hit "All I Really Want to Do", have been ignored. Not to mention her "Take Me Home" number from 79'. It's a good compilation, but too abbreviated for an artist who has been with us for so long.America, where is your release on this? I hear its' due in Oct. 98...Her last cd had a number of tracks superior to these new ones here, including"It's A Mans' World".

5.0 out of 5 stars UnBELIEVEable!!! Sept. 8 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Before Believe, Cher racked up a pretty impressive list of hit records, almost all of which are included on this collection. Essentially, this is the same collection as the American "If I Could Turn Back Time: Cher's Greatest Hits," with a few notable exceptions. The true highlights of this collection are the previously unreleased "Oh No Not My Baby," written by Carole King, and the Dianne Warren penned "Whenever You're Near." Also available here are "Many Rivers To Cross," from Extravaganza and "Dead Ringer For Love" with Meat Loaf. The previous song being tender and emotional, the latter just plain rock'n'roll fun. Between the two choices, I prefer this European release because it offers more that you probably haven't heard before. The only things missing are "After All," and "Take Me Home" (Not a great loss)

5.0 out of 5 stars Lace, Wigs and AOR Dec 9 2002
Format:Audio CD
Cher brings 3 new tracks to life on this greatest hits collection released in Europe back in 1992.
OH NO, NOT MY BABY is a Carole King song brillianty re-interpreted by Cher in the footsteps of THE SHOOP SHOOP SONG.
TOO MANY RIVERS TO CROSS is a Jimmy Cliff cover of one of his reggae hits of the '80's, recorded live at the Mirage in Vegas during her Extravaganza Tour.
WHENEVER YOU'RE NEAR is the absolute standout tune, great AOR, very much in tune with all of her material appearing on her latest 3 albums for geffen.
Some singles have been left out (HEART OF STONE and AFTER ALL), but they included a duet with Meatloaf written by Jim Steinman (not really a great track, though...) and some tunes from her '70's period.
Plus an extensive booklet with lotsa pics...a feast for the eyes!
A must have for AOR lovers!

5.0 out of 5 stars MISTRESS OF MANY STYLES May 21 2003
By Pieter Uys HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
Cher is a true survivor, a pop singer in the broadest sense of the term who has embraced many styles to consistently remain relevant through more than four decades. This album compiles her greatest hits of the 60s, 70s and 80s up to 1991's Shoop Shoop Song. It includes her hit duet with Sonny, I Got You Babe, a 60s pop classic that has been much covered by other artists, plus her power rock duet with Meat Loaf from his Dead Ringer album. There's also Dark Lady from 1974, the brilliant Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves from 1971 and a rousing live version of Many Rivers To Cross. Cher's success is due to her wise selection of material and her strong distinctive voice. If you love tuneful pop, you cannot go wrong with this enjoyable hits collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars CHER is THE absolutely NUMBER ONE Pop-Rock MEGASTAR Sept. 28 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I would give more than 5 stars if possible. During all my life I have been listening to Cher, she has always been there and I always enjoyed her songs. Now I do not listen to her early recordings.
I love her power ballads and heavier recordings, her techno-pop songs too. Most this CD concentrates on her late 80s and 90s recordings, and that is why I love it.
Cher is a superstar since long ago, she became a super mega-star since her international hit "Believe" and the songs that followed
it. I love them all too, I am waiting for next album, I would like some heavier hard-rock together with the techno/dance songs.
