Product Description

From Amazon.com

The linkage between consumerism and popular music finds a strange analogue in William Fries, a.k.a. C.W. McCall. Trained in graphic design and advertising, Fries invented his trucker persona while working on a bakery ad campaign and helped drive the trucker craze of the '70s with a slew of novelty tunes, few of which have aged very well. McCall described his delivery as a "walkin', talkin' singin' style," though emphasis always falls on his deadpan spoken wit. McCall never took himself seriously, and tunes like "Crispy Critters" and "'Round the World with the Rubber Duck" will inspire a laugh at just how weird the '70s could be. --Roy Kasten

4.0 out of 5 stars C W McCALL hits the nerves, Dec 21 2004
By

This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This CD has some of the best tracks and the worst track ever from the legend that is CW.. What I liked least was 'Roses for Mama' not a good track for driving across Europe to. GOOD thats out the way... Best track is a tie between Aurora Borealis for its atmosphere and wonder and care for nature -- who needs big cities anyway !! AND 'Classified'.. superb!! Comedy, Skill, Story telling at its best. Then Four wheel drive, reminders of the Wilderness album... Convoy - what ever happened to Black Bear Road - there is an audience in GB here in Scotland, where we can sing along but can't get our hands on it .. Friends of mine in Germany in the car club would KILL to be able to listen all day long to this champion

3.0 out of 5 stars OVER PRODUCED! with way too much chorus line!, Mar 11 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I got this thinking I would get to hear that cool voice without the women chorus line in the background, but noooooooooooooo!
WHY in just about every song are there singing chorus lines??

Sorta good, but not quite where it's at.

Simulated country at its best!

Not Recommended, unless you know what you are buying.
