The return of the Spice Girls !,
By
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Deluxe Edition with DVD) (Audio CD)
The Spice Girls left most people divided. You either loved them for their carefree pop tunes and cartoonish image, or despised them for the very same reasons. No matter which side of the fence you were on, the quintet became one of the best-selling acts of all time. Their rise to fame was instant, meteoric, and they were gone within a couple of years to go on various solo projects without a proper goodbye to their audience."Greatest Hits" makes up for that low-key exit, by reuniting the original five members allegedly for one last time. All of the hits are in there ("Wannabe", "Who do you think you are", "Stop", "Viva forever", "Say you'll be there" and so on) and there are also two new tracks. "Headlines", a ballad that hit the top 20 in their native UK, is slick and contemporary with an engaging melody and a sweet vocal performance from the Spice Girls. "Voodoo" is catchy and effervescent dance number that will likely take the clubs by storm. "Move over", a track from their second album that was featured in a Pepsi commercial, is also included. It would have been nice to throw in a couple of rarities (namely "My strongest suit", which was originally included in the soundtrack to the Broadway play "Aida"), but I guess they may be saving that stuff for later. Whether or not the Spice Girls will claim back their former glory remains to be seen; after all, this is merely a compilation (although a very good one). Still, there is obviously an audience that remains for the girls, because their upcoming world tour is sold-out and this compilation is doing very well overseas. I guess there's still room for good old pop music based around catchy melodies and engaging beats ! This special edition includes the videos to all of their singles, with the notable exception of the current "Headlines" (it would have been a good idea to include it). Their videos are campy, colourful, slick and silly; diehard fans would be wise to chose this special edition over the regular one.

SPICE GIRLS FOREVER MORE,
By
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Deluxe Edition with DVD) (Audio CD)
This is a great album for the spice girls lover in you. The videos have an added spice to this, and the girls did well. Only downside is that their new single's, Headlines (Friendship Never Ends), video isn't on the DVD. Other than that, a great buy. Go Girls ... can't wait to see you in concert in February.

The Girls are back in town!,
By Jeff Graham (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Deluxe Edition with DVD) (Audio CD)
The biggest band of the 90's is back with their Greatest Hits collection, twelve infectious and undeniably classic songs that you'll catch yourself singing-a-long to instantly, not missing a word, as if the last ten years never happened. Also featuring their BRAND NEW single "Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)" a beautiful ballad very reminiscent of the old Spice style, and another new upbeat dance track, "Voodoo", following in the footsteps of their past smash "Who Do You Think You Are?" This deluxe edition also includes a DVD with the girls 13 videos, they've never been seen in such fantastic quality. If I were only able to own one album in my life, this would be the one!
