In the six years since her debut CD ...Baby One More Time set Billboard charts a-trembling, Britney Spears has pried open pop music's rusty cage and sprinkled her sex-kittenish fairy dust around like long-overdue disinfectant. She has also arguably done more for the neglected navel than Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé have done for the derrière. But despite her well-earned reputation for boldness (to which releasing a greatest-hits package after just four discs can only add), Britney calls it quits at making claims about her vocal talent. And that works in her favor. Because while My Prerogative is an exciting and even at times superb record, its merits lie almost exclusively in each track's production. From the Abba-esque choruses of her earliest hits ("...Baby One More Time," "Crazy") to the twitching, pulsed-up grooves of 2001's "I'm a Slave 4 U" to the technified bleeps and swizzles of 2003's self-skewering "Outrageous," the pop princess proves she's been largely content to let her in-studio performances take a back seat to the rhythm. With beats as consistently good as the ones she's managed to recruit, though, it's hard to blame her. "Toxic" and "Me Against the Music" mash trance and hip-hop into the mix, and the three previously unreleased joints don't shrink from sliding headfirst into new sound, either. The Bobby Brown cover and title track stomps and bomps to a bared-teeth backdrop, and "Do Somethin'" creates such dancefloor urgency it should come with a siren. "I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)" treads two steps shy of crossing the Britney-bred boundary between sexy and raunchy, but fans will hope it's autobiographical anyway. For detractors the song--and the disc as a whole--should signal a long wait till the party's over. --Tammy La Gorce

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album- Britneys true growth! Dec 9 2004
By Nader
Format:Audio CD
The girl has done it again!!! Britney enlightens people with her Greatest Hits album, "My Prerogative." This album truly shows how Britney has grown from the age of 17 with her 1999 hit, "Baby One More Time" to a beautiful, sophisticated, young woman with her latest, "My Prerogative". You can definitely see Britneys growth and transition from a girl to a woman, and if someone can do that, then they are what I like to call a REAL ARTIST! She has captured our hearts, attention, and she strived to what she became to be known as the biggest female artist in the world. Out of all the singles on this album, some that are a highlight include: Overprotected, Lucky, Slave 4 U, Toxic, Me Against The Music, Stronger and Outrageous. As you can see, it is mostly the upbeat tempos that attract people. Other unreleased songs that made it to this album include: "Just Begun (Having My Fun)" which is honestly a fun song to listen to, especially when you are driving and can jam to it. "Do Something" is another interesting song from Britney, something you wouldn't expect. You can see that her direction has changed. Britney's greatest hits is to allow people to realize that she is going to take some time off away from the business and fulfill her role as being a wife and the woman that she is, that she doesn't get to be when in the public eye 24/7. If you ask me, she has worked hard enough, she earned a break. This definitely makes a great album and a great gift to someone you know! For a limited time, the limited edition cd includes special remixes to "Toxic", "Breathe On Me" (One of my favourites), "Outrageous", "Everytime" and many more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cd and the bonus disk is awesome! Nov. 19 2004
By Chad
Format:Audio CD
Almost all the singels but missing 2, "from the bottom of my broken heart" & "don`t let me be the last to know". Those 2 songs should be on the cd too seeing "Everytime" is. I guess this is meant to be more of a fast up beat CD with all of the faster songs except "everytime". but anyway, never mind the bad reviews, they know they like it. Even if you have all of her CD`s you should still get this one, the new songs are awesome and the bonus disk is really good. well worth the money.some people just write bad reviews because their jealous and they know she`s talented ect. This is a must have for any britney fan or even if your not a fan, because alot of people who say they don`t like her and her music really do. they just don`t want to admit it, but hey, some really don`t like her, i`m just saying. You should also get the dvd, it got all the videos on this cd and more and the songs that are missing from this are even on it. the song "do somethin`" is awesome and very different from the rest of her songs, not that the other songs are bad. my prerogative and i`ve just begun (having my fun) are really great too. best songs on the bonus disk in my opinion are toxic, breathe on me, and the chris cox megamix, well that`s all i gotta say, buy the CD and Enjoy!
keep the music comming brit, don`t stop for too long, cya.

4.0 out of 5 stars All of your Britney favourites... on one CD Nov. 13 2004

Format:Audio CD
Britney's "Greatest Hits: My Prerogative" is exactly what it sounds like - it's all her greatest hits, although as the Amazon review stated, it's missing "From the bottom of my broken heart". However, Amazon also forgot (along with everyone else) about the second song it's missing: "I love rock and roll", from the album "Britney" and the Crossroads soundtrack- possibly because it was her only song not to make it up on the UK charts.

I personally like this album because while I am not a really big Britney fan and I don't buy her CDs, "Greatest Hits: My Prerogative" has all her dance tunes lined up in neat procession, without the unneeded accompaniment of fillers and sappy love songs.

Her three "previously unreleased" songs are alright - "My Perogative" and its tell-it-like-it-is lyrics are quite empowering and speak true to Britney's current tabloid-frenzied life, though not her best. #17 reminds me (slightly) of Gwen Stefani's new song "What you Waiting For?" - only without the sassiness of Ms. Stefani.

Overall, I think we finally have a Britney CD worthy buying, whether you're a casual fan or a die-hard Britaholic. My only gripe, other than tracks #16 and #17, is the album cover. Could Britney possibly look any more emaciated and greasy.

If you enjoyed her singles (or most of) without being her greatest fan this CD gives you what you need without having to buy her entire discography. The extra songs are pretty good too.

1.0 out of 5 stars A greatest hits after only 3 albums?? Dec 11 2004
Format:Audio CD
I didnt listen to the cd and i dont plan on doing it any time soon. This just isnt right, how can anyone release a Best oF cd after only 3 albums(very short albums too). This CD probably has 90% of her songs. This is such a ripoff and britney spears is not an artist. of course her fans will absolutly love this cd
