4.0 out of 5 stars Everything Irish, April 22 2004

This review is from: Greatest Irish Bands (Audio CD)
They managed to gather a good bunch of bands for this compilation. The name of the album alone conjures up a bunch of Irish bands. When I first heard about it, I tried guessing what was the actual band line up they came up with, and while it's not exactly what I imagined, it's still a lot of really good Irish artists from a lot of different genres. My favorites are the punk bands, it's good to see The Undertones (Teenage Kicks), The Pogues (Fairytale of New York - classic track) and Stiff Little Fingers (Alternative Ulster). There's plenty of big hits on the CD from U2, Van Morrison, Cranberries, Sinead... The album's definitely worth getting, especially if you're looking for lots of variety but songs you can still recognize.

Just in time for St. Patrick's Day ~ from Hip-O Records "Greatest Irish Bands", featuring some of the best selling artists from the green hills of Ireland. This release gives the listener thirteen ultimate rockin' tunes from U2, Thin Lizzy, Sinead O'Connor, The Boomtown Rats, Clannad Featuring Bono, The Pogues Featuring Kristy MacColl, Stiff Little Fingers, Rory Gallager, The Cranberries, The Corrs, Hothouse Flowers, The Undertones and Van Morrison ~ blending classic flavored rock, traditional and punk favorites, with a touch of a four leaf clover line up.

Top of the morning stand outs are ~ "NOTHING COMPARES 2 U" (Sinead O'Connor), went to number one in 1990, "I DON'T LIKE MONDAYS'" (The Boomtown Rats) and "FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK" (The Pogues featuring Kristy MacColl) ~ make this album worth the price of admission.

The bonus DVD ~ "SIGHTING OF BONO", featuring Bono in a seven minute short film, makes this a collectors dream come true ~ if you're a U2 fan, this is a must have for your collection.

Total: CD & DVD ~ UTV 157600 ~ (2/24/2004)

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price!, Mar 10 2008

I dont have this one but I have almost ALL of these songs. If youve never heard these bands/artists this is a really good introduction. I give this one 5 stars because RORY GALLAGHER is here as well as the STIFF LITTLE FINGERS! Its a nice collection of DIFFERENT music genres. You can get a basic idea of how these artists sound.(for example- Rory Gallagher is blues/rock and the Stiff Little Fingers are Punk rock....in case you didnt know) .....I really cant believe RORY is on this one! Yeeaaa!
