Sinestro -- Hal Jordan's former mentor and arch-nemesis -- has gathered an army of soldiers fueled by the fear they instill in others, consisting of Arkillo, Karu-Sil, the Cyborg-Superman, and hundreds more of the most terrifying villains the universe has ever seen! Former Green Lantern Kyle Rayner has been possessed by the entity known as Parallax and now assists the Sinestro Corps in cutting a swath of evil across the universe. Trapped in the depths of the Sinestro Corps' Citadel and face-to-face with the Guardian of Sinestro's army of fear, Hal Jordan must find the will-power to battle these terrible foes. 2.0 out of 5 stars In Bleakest Night July 15 2009
Format:Paperback
Is this the "best" comic in years? Because that's just sad. I read many reviews raving about this series and after reading part one I have no idea what they are seeing in this. Actually, I have tried to get into several Geoff Johns books and I find them all tedious. His M.O seems to be "have a huge battle where all the heroes are decimated" then "have the good guys fight back and take down the bad guys". This first part is one long, drawn out borefest with the Sinestro Corps mowing down the Green Lanterns, page after page. Hey, I don't mind a good take down but there is no cleverness to the writing. The bad guys are winning because the Green Lanterns apparently are no match for this new Corps (and they can't kill).
Fight scene after fight scene with no point (other than to drive home the point that the Green Lanterns are no match for the Yellow ones) and no inventiveness to the fights. Oh yes, there are also scenes of the Gardians of the Galaxy just talking about not doing anything. Kind of makes you wonder how the Green Lantern Corps ever became respected in the first place. Maybe the second part is better but why waste the $13 plus to take that chance?
The artwork is half good and half bad depending on who was drawing the issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars How an EVENT comic should be done! July 19 2009
By S. Chua
Format:Paperback
Marvel should take a cue from DC on how to do an event comic. This storyline is one of the best ones to ever come out of DC comics in a while. I've been a Green Lantern fan since I got into comics in the late 80s, and this title has never been this good. This particular storyline is sweeping in grandeur. It totally rewards those that have been reading the current series. New readers who have never read any of the previous volumes may find this confusing, almost akin to watching (or reading)Tolkien's Return of the King without going through the first two films (or books). Two thumbs up, or in this case... 5 Stars to all involved in delivering this story.
