Product Description

From Amazon.com

Grounded for Life was the indie film version of the family sitcom. Donal Logue, Kevin Corrigan, and Richard Riehle had all done time in plenty of independent productions before making the move to network TV. Sean Finnerty (Logue, The Tao of Steve) is a subway worker and wife Claudia (Megyn Price, Lateline) is a restaurant hostess. Their favorite band is the Ramones. The Staten Island-based couple started having children just out of high school (they’re both 32). They aren't bad parents, but they're still just kids themselves. Aside from 14-year-old Lily (Lynsey Bartilson) and grade schoolers Jimmy (Griffin Frazen) and Henry (Jake Burbage), the Finnertys are joined by Sean's slacker brother, Eddie (Corrigan, Walking and Talking), and old school dad, Walt (Riehle, Office Space). Recurring characters include Brad O'Keefe (Bret Harrison), the boy next door (who harbors a not-so-secret crush on Lily), and Sister Helen (Miriam Flynn), St. Finian's take-no-prisoners principal. Standout episodes include "Jimmy Was Kung Fu Fighting" in which Jimmy makes like a pint-sized Jet Li--in his dreams (Grounded for Life makes frequent use of flashbacks and fantasy sequences)--and the Emmy-nominated "Mrs. Finnerty, You've Got a Lovely Daughter," in which Sean attempts to bribe Sister Helen on Lily's behalf. First year guests include The O.C.'s Adam Brody ("Action Mountain High") and That '70s Show's Danny Masterson ("Baby, You Can't Drive My Car"). Grounded for Life, which began life on Fox before moving to the WB, was created by 3rd Rock veterans Bill Martin and Mike Schiff, featured music by Ween, and was renewed for four more seasons. Fun fact: Every one of the 91 episodes, including the 20 on this collection, is named after a pop song ("In My Room," Devil's Haircut," "Dream On," etc.). --Kathleen C. Fennessy

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute, very underated, funny show ;-), Jan 16 2006

This review is from: Grounded for Life: Season One (DVD)
I always liked this one. It was quite a funny show whose ratings didn't reflect how good it was. In it's rookie season, it was good, but as each season progressed, I think it got better. My favourite character is Eddie who comes across as a dark, moody, brooding and mysterious guy, who is actually a puppy dog. The kids are great and the parents are fun. What this show does in each and every episode, is have flashbacks. The story lines always have a reason to go back in time and explain how a particular situation occured. The Finnerty's are the fun kind of family we all wish we were a part of. Through all the teasing and fighting, you know they love each other. This is a keeper, and I'm sorry it was cancelled. As I said earlier; ratings don't always proove how good a show can be, and this is a classic example. A terrific sitcom that will keep you laughing.

A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Grounded for Life: Season One (DVD)
In the summer of 2005, we got cable for the first time since we moved into the new house. I had never heard of Grounded for Life, until they started playing it on ABC family. I watched it the first day it was on, and thought it was hilarious! I thought it was so funny that I started watching it every single day. In fact, after all the shows ran through once, i started taping them so i could watch whatever one i wanted to, when i wanted to. I love it! I went over to my friend's house one day and i asked her if we could watch Grounded for Life. She said sure, and she thought it was funny too! She even asked me when it was on the next day so she could watch it again! This show is about Sean, Claudia, their kids, and all the everyday problems and little adventures that they have. Lily, the oldest daughter, is basically 99.9% brat, and .1% not brat. She is just a regular teenager, except screams all the time! Jimmy, the middle child, is becoming a teen and is just trying to get through life. (He's really hot.) Henry, the youngest child, is sooooo funny! My mom says he's a smart allec/brat, but i disagree. Eddie, Sean's brother and the kids' uncle, is also very, very funny. He mooches off of Sean and Claudia, and in like season 5 he ends up living in their basement. Brad is the neighbor kid who is in love with Lily. He also is pretty funny. You don't see much of Brad in the early seasons, but near the end you see him in every episode. Grounded for Life is a great show. You should definatley watch it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you enjoyed "ROSANNE"..you'll like "Grounded for Life", Jan 11 2006
By J. J. Kruse "UrbanTwang" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Grounded for Life: Season One (DVD)
This was one of the best family sitcoms on TV. (Hard to find sitcoms on tv anymore) Unfortunately, it was cancelled by 2 networks. Fox cancels everything too soon. The WB replaced it with some stupid Fran Drescher show that bombed and Blue Collar TV (yuk!). You can still catch "Grounded" in re-runs on ABC FAMILY. I Recorded every episode and transfered it to DVD..only to find out it's coming out on dvd.

If you are a fan of "Roseanne", you'll definately enjoy "Grounded for Life". The final season was the best. The daughter Lilly is very funny. My husband says the mom is "HOT".

I'm still surprised the show got cancelled.
